Im seriously hacked off, twice now the car has been in the garage for brake discs and the wrong discs sent again, what is wrong with people.

I bought front mintex discs for my '93 lwb N/A 280x30, calipers fit over but pads wouldnt, so ok sent them back and got them exchanged for the 280x26,

sorted........NOT :headvswal the offset of the bell part of the disc is 30mm, apparently needs to be 25mm, why would this be different? i thought the hubs were the same on all models, obviously not. The supplier has gone to scratch his head to try and find the right ones.

Has anyone else had the same problem..

I have looked through the threads and this particular querie doesnt seem to be listed.

Cheers

This unfortunately does happen with the N/A's sometimes, garages get muddled at the best of times cos some catalogues list the 300zx as from the early 80's, being the z31.

anyways back to your problem, lol

Danny (dta)sells N/A discs from 3g if you get stuck, though most just wap a pair of TT calipers on and then fit TT discs, reason being is loads of companies do aftermarket TT discs but very very few do the N/A ones,

Oh and often the N/A aftermarket discs cost a wee bit more than the TT ones for some reason.

hope that helps a little

Cheers smithy, i should have just got them from the likes of you instead of messing around, in fairness the discs and pads were only £119 from crn ltd so thought i was getting a good deal, but after paying for the discs to be removed and replaced twice it has no longer been a cheap venture.

So the offset of the bell, is it different with the 280x30 and 280x26 or is it down to the year?

cheers

Graham

Well it ain't down to the year, so can only assume yes a slight difference n offset bud. Some places if not specialising in a certain car, do often make the mistake of assuming all models are the same etc, which it seems happened 1st time round for yer am afraid.

It was only the early NA's that were different.

After 2/91 the NA's had exactly the same brake disc/caliper setup as the TT's.

'93 should be same as a TT.

A '93 zed should also have iron calipers (rather than the ally ones).

Are you sure it wasn't just a case of not pushing the pistons back in far enough?

I dont see why you should have to pay for fitting the parts more than once. The way im reading it is that you got the parts through this garage. If they cant get the right part, or what sounds like get the right part to fit properly, you shouldnt have to pay the costs of fitting and removing until they get it right.

Why you paying for a garage to fit pads and discs anyway??? Its the easiest job in the worlds, and if your having probs theyres more than enough members round your neck of the woods who could show you how to do it! :p

Just my opinion of course :nelson:

Let me clear this up, I bought the discs from CRN ltd from Lancashire from their add on fleabay for mintex pads and discs for 300zx. I got a guy who runs a local garage on the isle of wight to fit them, he did not supply the discs, i did, so obviously the labour for doing it twice is incurred. Why didnt i fit them myself... I could quite easily, but the weather has been shite and i can either do it on my drive or in the road and just wanted them done to be honest, i dont mind paying.

As far as the calipers go it is a strange one but the guy fits brakes and zorsts all day long im sure he would know if the pistons were not in far enough, i will take some pics to clarify

Year the car was made and the year it was registered don't have to be the same. Infact the TT out sold the NA buy big numbers and it is quite likely that many pre 91 manufactored NA Zeds sat and waited 2 or more years before being registered. There seem to be very few series 2 NA's but loads of Series 1. I have a 92 and a 90 Red AWB NA abd they both had the original spec brakes etc. Though the 92 does have ABS and Cruise control

Im seriously hacked off, twice now the car has been in the garage for brake discs and the wrong discs sent again, what is wrong with people.

I have new TT and a new N/A disc in my garage. I will measure them and let you know the sizes of the offset/ bell

I just measured the discs. The TT disc from the back of the bell/ mounting face to the inside of the vent area (IE the depth of the machined portion) is 25.6mm the N/A disc is 29.6mm

Cheers Guinnal,

But thats where it gets spooky.

The first discs i received were 280x30 with offset 54mm which is the 24.6mm.

The replacements were 280x26mm offset 59mm which is the 29.6mm from disc to bell, but i need 280x26mm with offset of 54mm for my N/A with 26mm ally calipers, it seems a strange combination for the year,

I dont think so as the spacer would have to be behind the disc, I'm still waiting for the suppliers to source them and get back to me, if all else fails i will have to get some TT calipers and get them to send me the discs they originally sent me 280x30mm.
