Just want to say a big thank you to this club and all it’s members.

Friday afternoon I left work as usual, no problems with the Zed. (92 TT Auto)

Half way home I lost all the gears, had nothing. Engine would rev fine but when put in gear

got a loud whiney noise as it went in gear. drive 30 or so yards then nothing.

Would be ok if I turned engine off and back on after a minute or so, would get a loud whiney noise as it went in gear. drive 30 or so yards then nothing.

Took me one and a half hours to do the 1.5 miles home.

All the time thinking the Torque Converter had gone.

Got it to the garage and mechanic also mentioned Converter.

Started looking for a new gearbox, and doing some searches here.

‘Oil Strainer blockage’ kept coming up so decided to do that first.

Did that today, strainer was well clogged with sludge. No large bits thankfully.

Magnet in the sum was furred up too but again no large bits.

Cleaned everything in petrol and put back together.

Went out for a small test drive and the box feels better than ever. Changes smoother and seems quicker in general. Not that it felt jerky between changes before, but there is a noticeable difference now.

Got to check the ATF level tomorrow and check for leaks.

So because of the members advice and knowledge of this club I have sorted the problem without having to have the Zed off the road, and pay a mechanic god knows how much to do a job that cost me about £16.00

I thank you all

I hate to say this, but.......... thats EXACTLY what happened to mine. Got someone to do the same thing with the cleaning and flushing etc. and I thought everything was hunky dory, then a couple of months later it went completely. Hope you have better luck but I personally think if the filter has blocked, its blocked for a reason. And not a good one at that. I hope for your sake I`m wrong. Good luck

Know what you're saying mate and I'm ready for it. But if you got someone else to do it how do you know it was done properly.

Not saying it wasnt. But when you do it yourself you go the extra mile if you know what I mean.

Touch wood it'll be ok, if not then it's another box.

I know what you`re saying about doing it yourself. And I really do hope it turns out ok and lasts longer than mine. :) Fingers crossed for you.
