This is bad

Ever wondered what it’s like having a car spinning out of control towards you on the motorway? Well that’s what happened to me today driving home from work on the M11.

It seems that a lorry clipped the rear end of a car whilst changing lane and sent him spinning into the right hand lane just as I was over taking the lorry so I didn’t even see the car till he was on top of me.

Guess it’s the end of the road for my baby then. Gutted though because I’ve just spent over 6K in the last couple of months for engine rebuild, new turbos and gearbox, don’t suppose the insurance company will give a shit about that and just pay book price. Man this really sucks

Hey bud im really sorry to hear about it,what a twat!

just to reasure you that you'll be ok about getting some dosh back off ya car.

i got cuaght in a flood last year a month after id spent 7ooo quid on on a rebuild,my car was a 93 l reg and i got the insurance company to pay out 10000 on a new engine for me,they took all the work i had done into consideration(i had all reciepts)and paid out 8k towards the engine when the book price was about 10-12k

anyway hope you are ok and everthing goes well with ya insurance .jay

LOOKING AT UR CAR ID SAY IT LOOKS REPAIRABLE!

hope ya whiplash and other mental injuries are really bad so you get a good payout off the truck drivers insurance company.

Hi Jaylox

You may be right about the car being repairable, I have checked and the engine seems untouched but I did loose oil, maybe just a feed pipe or somthing spilt. Having seen the price of resprays and body work lately I recon its going to be a close thing.

Steve,

If they write it off you have two choices:-

1 See if you can buy it back, but make sure you know how much its going to be to repair.

2 They take a while to collect the car, so swap the engine out for a knackered one, or take off the bits you want to keep.

Steve,

Let me know how it goes with the insurance assessor, I have some odds'n'ends around that may be of use to you.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I will let you know how I get on with the insurance. If they do right it off it will be a terible waste, the engine and turbos have only just been run in. Not to mention the uprated gear box, new Brembo etc etc...............

That is an absulute bitch. However, I must admit, you do sound a bit chilled about it all. Maybe its the shock.

Hope you get it and you all sorted soon mate.

Cos

Ouch - eek. Much sympathies. Still, most important is that you're OK.

On the insurance thing, did that include legal fees? Many do. Or, perhaps, are you AA / RAC / similar?

If you can get a legal rottweiler on your side, it would at least share the pain.

Speaking of which, have you consulted your doctor about the after effects of the collision? Aches, pins, whiplash - that sort of thing?

No-win, no-fee legal eagles (if you're not already covered by insurance for legal representation) can be very helpful in making you are properly compensated for injuries to your goodself as well as the damage to your car.

Hi Gio

Thanks for you reply.

I do have legal cover but have been advised that it is often better to see an indipendant solicitor, much faster. Saw the Doc today and have been signed of work for two weeks due to whiplash and then light duties for up to another eight.

Going to Florida in six weeks (£5000 holiday), wonder what ruining that is worth.

Either should be fine - just go with the one you're happy with. No-win no-fee indy's are naturally very keen to get a result quickly. Be careful, there some alleged "no-win no-fee" firms which don't charge you a fee or take any money out of your comensation but DO charge you a big "insurance fee" to cover their losses if you don't win. Sounds dodgy to me. One of these just went bust (Claims Direct).

Always count your fingers after shaking hands with a lawyer!

If your doc advises you not to go on your hol, that's the cost of the hol (not covered by cancellation insurance), compensation, pain and disappointment (or whatever it is called) any charges for having to re-arrange etc etc.

Good luck and go for it. It wasn't your fault so you should be compensated!

I actually think it is unethical to claim for FALSE injuries - you wouldn't like it if someone you hit did it; and we all end up paying for it with higher insurance costs.

My insurance company gives you the value you quote for the car irrespective of it's book value AS LONG AS YOU PROVIDE EVIDENCE WITH PHOTOS AND THEY AGREE WITH YOU.

Maybe more peoeple here should consider this!

Steve

I feel for you m8. Looks pretty bad but repairable. Hope everything will be ok for you. What a bummer.

Regards

Van

Sorry to hear about it mate, but if it makes you feel better, i reckon thats a £2500 reapair job if that!. My guy is the bollox at repairing cars at an exellent price too. I've had cars with alot worse damage than that repaired before by him and they come out like new. The other good side to it is that he does take his time doing it so you can just leave it with him, with the parts, and go off on holiday!. So, if if you want me to put you in touch with him, let me know.

Best of luck mate,

Kash
