You may recall the power light flasing problem, well I don't think it is anything to do with the Auto Transmission. The problem is now more frequent. The car is fine until a shortish journey and the speedo will drop from 40mph to the stop. When it does this the power steering packs up which is quite alarming.

The Speedo picks up after 40mph and all is well.

Question. Does anyone know where the sensor for the speedo is? Does this fail? Can contacts be cleaned?

I think the 16 flashes of the power light are telling me that the speed sensor is buggered. Anyone had this problem?

Simon,

Was it happening before you removed your SLD? If not, maybe you didn't reconnect the speed sensor wire properly when you removed the unit...

Dave, yup it was happening before the change of Ecu and removal of SLD. It is just now more frequent.

Simon,

The Problem IS either the Speed Sensor or the Speedo, I would put my money on the Speedo, as Sensor Failures tend to be more permenant and less intermittant as you describe.

Anyway the Speedo is electrical and you should find the sensor on the Passanger side of the transmission i think, not knowing

the Autos too well, Check the connections and contact there for corrosion. That might be the only easy fix you have.

Failing that Get the Speedo Replaced. You should probably also be gettin the HICAS warning light coming on. The problem is that all the power steering is controlled from the information from the Speedo so if that is faulty then high speed round about navigation becomes a serious matter.

I would get that changed first if it doesn't fix your problem then change the sensor.

Not sure of a price sorry. You could do it yourself if you fancy taking the guage cluster off but im not sure what comes as part of the speedo kit or wheather the wire is at the sensor end ( tricky) or the Speedo end ( not so tricky) i would have thought the former is a lot more likely knowing Nissans wiring.

Hope that helps a bit.

Nico, you could be right. I had the speedo recalibrated before I took delivery. I may ask the folks that supplied the car for details of the comapany that did it.

Thanks to Andy Archer for the answer. He had exactly the same problem which turned out to be a badly wired reaclibration unit (mph/kmh). Looks like mine has failed so the fix is a new one or disconnect to go back to km/h.

This would explain the drop in power and the power steering dropping off. The ecu does not know what to do so that is why it's all going pear shaped. Will let you know how it goes.

I will call the people who did the conversion to see if they can fix it.

Can bloody wait to get back to normal.
