Ive been looking around for a new ride for a while now, and ive come down to two cars:

Nissan Skyline R32 GTR V-spec.

AND

Nissan 300zx Twin Turbo.

Now any of you who know me know ive already had a 300zx TT, and as much as i loved it, the relationship wasnt always what id call happy, and it cost me alot of money (which i will admit was mostly my own fault) but i was completely smitten with the car.

The reason i have come down to these two are as follows:

300zx: I know the workings of the 300 pretty well through all the 'bad' times i had with it, so that experience i think is invaluable. I STILL love the overall look of the 300zx and it doesnt take too much work to get rid of some of its features that make it look a touch dated. The ride was firm yet you could do big milage journeys without too much hassle. And Finally, even though the back seats are tiny, you can get the kids in there, or a baby seat

R32 GTR: I've always loved the R32 ever since i used to watch the Jap Touring Car Championships round an old school friend of mine, and man did it kick some arse! It not a pretty car, but its not in your face and is verging on a bit of a sleeper car. Theres alot more stuff available for the GTR than the 300zx. Its still got that small amount of room to fit the kids in the back. Its a new experience for me, never owned a 4wd performance car as well. Once again it doesnt take alot to bring it a bit more up to date.

Now I know im posting this on a 300 forum, so i know the opinions may be slightly biased, but I am looking for OBJECTIVE and CONTRUCTIVE responses for this thread! SO PLEASE NO "GET THE 300 COZ ITS THE BEST" type posts :x: :nelson:

Unfortunatly i have not had the opportunity to drive these cars back to back, so doing a direct comparison for myself is going to be hard to do. In short i'm relaying on some of you who have driven a R32 and a 300zx, and PLEASE let me know your honest opinions of your experiences.

So over to you guys  :duffer: :hyper:

Don't sell it then. I'd rather donate mine to a museum than let it go for pennies. LOL

people do though. i agree with you if i still had mine i would be the same i would keep it than sell for pennies but maybe the people who sell for silly money need to get rid

What do you mean about the spool up. The car I had was farely standard. It was what was classed as a stage 2 Middlehurst tune pushing about 400bhp. I don't recall any great laggyness. infact it kicked it at 3500 rpm and was very stronge. It had the standard blue Grey velour interior and was Midnight Purple it was a 95 N reg and full service history sold as new Uk car from Middlehusrts sister company Abbey Motors. It only had 36k on the clock. Standard 17" wheels etc.

I got it to convince my wife that it was a proper family car. It has plenty of room in the back for 2 full sized adults but the boot is not much bigger than the Zed. Which amazed me. Not much else I can say really. Other than I bought it from 2 guys who just dealt in Skylines and they were based in the south midlands. Infact Andy Middlehurst put me onto them because I ummed and arred about a black one they were selling. When I decided I'd go for it. they'd sold it. It was nice that one it had black and red leather interior.

the guy seemed to have to give it a few revs just to get it to 0 on the gauge more than i did in the zed, it did seem to get to the correct boost

I am not a great lover of the R32. The R33 does it for me and had that have been the choice the R33 would have won. But thats easy for me to say coz I have a R33 and a 300ZX. :D

But none the less its not an easy choice. There is a very big influx of Skylines at the moment and prices are going to start falling soon IMO. I know of a R32 GTR in red selling for £4500. Not V spec I dont think though.

????Get the Skyline.....................I'll get me coat. :D

I have to admit, i've always prefered the looks of the R33. But to get a good R33 is way out of my budget.

The reason i have decided to go for the V-spec R32 is mainly because of the Brembo Brakes and the tweeked ATTESSA system, which is apparently not as intrusive as the ATTESSA system on the R33.

Cheers for the inut, keep it coming!

The big thing to watch out for is twisred cranks on cars that have been chipped. Being a staight six they are very free reving, but the Crank is the weak point of the RB26. Andy middlehursts warned me about cars that were chipped without rev limiters.

He said that they replace about 3 cranks a year for just this reason. The engine rvs so easy that people go over humpback bridges and are air bourn for a few seconds. The foot is firmly planted on the giggle peddle and suddenly they is no resistance to other than the drive train. The engine revs jump off the scale and the car never runs properly again.

He also reconds that 1 in 5 skylines have a twisted crank from minor ie iddling problems to major seriously poor running at low to mid revs.

So well worth paying to have it checked by an expert.

Cheers for that fella, thats something that everyone failed to mention on GTROC.com.

Im still undecided at the moment, i need to look at bit more in detail into the general running costs on the GTR, as well as finding a nice one to drive so i can make some sort of comparison myself between that and the zed.

Why are decisions like this never easy?!?
