Just received my new coilpack connectors and injector connectors I got from ebay. £70 including postage from the US, bargain.

Wondering if I need to use a special solder for electrics or will normal solder do ?

Fill.

Ordinary electrical solder is fine, plumbing solder is not. Try to use the proper lead/tin stuff, the new no-lead stuff is a pain.

Oh - I thought I'd just lost the knack of soldering!

(I'm currently covered in bruises as I spent most of Sunday crammed into the footwell of the MR2 wiring in an Innovate LC-1)

With old wiring its also a good idea to buy some flux as well to aid the solder - the old wires invariably are already oxidised....

Remember to put some insulating sleeve over the solder when completed not just tape. Just finished re-wiring main loom where solder from previous owner's bodge broke through the insulation tape and shorted out. I found my main loom glowing bright red and smoking like a good'en'. They do some insulating heat shrink in Maplins, might be worth while.

Got some sleeves in the packet with the injector connectors.

Will get some for the coilpack connectors though.

Think we have some shrink wrap stuff at work, use it to cover caliper steels.

Cheers.

If you are trying to solder older wiring which invariably has some corrosion, I would recommend using a soft copper wire brush on the strands to remove it as solder flux will not clean it properly. Wheel cleaner which should be wiped off afterwards will also remove any aged corrosion.
