HI PEOPLE

I NEED TO GET MY SPEEDO SET UP CORRECTLY TO READ THE RIGHT SPEED.

I AM I RIGHT IN SAYING YOU SIMPLY NEED TO CHANGE THE "RESISTOR" OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT, ON THE REAR OF THE SPEEDO CLUSTER TO ACHIEVE THE CORRECT READING ON THE SPEEDO. :headvswal

AGAIN, I THINK YOU CAN GET THESE "LITTLE CHAPPIES" FROM MAPLINS, OR A SIMILAR ELECTRICAL STORE. :D

ANY HELP OR INFO IS VEY MUCH APPRECIATED.

right , to change speedo from kmh to mph then you do the resistor mod, if you want to calibrate amph speedo you need to adjust the screws in the back of the speedo , what is it you are trying to do

ooo.... interesting there are screws on the back of the speedo to adjust if your speedo is out?

i pulled my needles off and it's reading 10mph ish above the correct speed.

the oil temp don't work at all and the rev counter i need to check, think the oil temp could be down to a ecu issue.

Yep, there are miniture potentiometers for fiddling with this stuff.

Best put the needles back in the right place then ! LOL :D

Oil temp doesn't go though the ECU, so you most likely have a wiring problem somewhere. Do you mean water temp ? or oil pressure?

haha, yeah i didn't give it too much thought pulled it off and didn't put it back in the right place, the best bit is though it's sticky so it sticks and moves very slowly. no idea why.

I'll pull it off and put it back closer and then fiddle the thingy to make it right.

It's the temp to the left of the speedo which isn't working at all. Really annoying especially as the engine has been rebuilt, great that i can keep a eye on things

I'm suspecious the revs is off also, i'm going to hook the datascan to see what that reckons it reving at and adjust acording to that.

The question is does it not work because i pulled the needles off or down to when the engine was fitted. no telling lol.

Temp sender is on the front of the engine, upper water pipe, single terminal conection (usually black connector). Sounds like your speedo is buggered you have to be VERY carefull when removing the needles....

Its worth noting that on the later series cars there is no resistor mod (yet known) and no adjustment facilities.... Can't remember the change over point though on the models.

Are there any aftermarket speedo clusters about?

Isn't there a car some where with a cluster made up from aftermarket gauges?

hi retro

sorry its been over a day, but was a bit bit busy. :duffer:

right, i have a jap import which had, obviously KPH, but was de-restricted before import and new dial fitted (i think 320 KPH full deflection). now i have 160 MPH full deflection. the speedo is reading 20% lower than what is a true measurement, (i have a speed cam detector, which i know displays at approx. 10% lower than real time, thus giving me some good indication)

if can give me some little bit of advice as where to go with this, i will be forever in your debt.

take a look at this link it has a few pics with the adjustment pots on it

Great link

thanks retro

but do you know how much deflection you can achieve with the adjustment of these 2 screws?

cheers mate

not sure really, but it would be worth a try, the other way would be to work out the difference the resistor mod does on a kmh speedo when changing it to mph then using that figure work out the needed resistor to correct your speedo
