I think so,

i may of got the information wrong but been advised to get adjustable cam gears for my spec. there is a weird scuffing noise coming from my newly rebuilt engine and think it may be because these arnt fitted. something to do with the variable cam timing or something but i have no idea what this all means.

Also to get rid of the variable valve timing.

Sounds dubious to me. And the easiest was to get rid of the vtc is to disconnect the solenoid.

So do people disconnect thei Vtc with big power Zeds?

Where is this Solenoid.

What other advantages and disadvantages of getting rid of it?

with aggresive cams the VTC springs wear and become noisy, which cams do you have out of interest?

adjustable cam gears allow you to tune the cam timing for max torque at ceratin rpms.

vtc gives you a better spread of power through the whole rev range.

I'm not too sure, they are either JWT 400+ or the JWT R4.

I have new VTC springs.

Adjustable cams sound like they are for fine tuning then.

vtc is sounded a good thing to keep then.

keep vtc if you can. if you find the cams are destroying the vtc springs and the noise winds you up then switch to adjustable cam gears.

That's my plan anyway with the JWT 500+

Oh right so the noise is to be expected then?

That's reassuring knowing that noises are to be expected mine sounds like something is catching within the cam gear case. Orignal thought it was the cam belt catching.

Hi mate, just replying to yer PM now, but back on this noise, you've also got the extra parts required to run different Cams, so kinda puzzled why there is still a noise. You've had Heavy duty valve springs, cam sprocket adapters and the heavy duty VTC springs, these are what are used to minimise the noise when using bigger cams.

You could always ask did they fit the new supplied rings when fitting the cams.

cheers

It's all so confusing, especially for me as i know bits n bobs.

The adapters must be fitted as the cams are in there, the heavy duties springs are fitted as i have a dirty greasy bag full of old ones as for the VTC springs i will have to check.

Fingers crossed i should still be picking it up tomorrow.

i wouldn't have thought adjustable cam gears would make any difference to noise level, they are for setting cam timing spot on, as with normal pulleys you can set timing withing 1 tooth only so the noise must either be the cam pulley springs or something else making a noise.

found out the hard way what the noise was.

The cam belt has now slipped off, the problem was down to a pully being loose so the belt was catching on the case (the noise) luckly it come off in the garage and they managed to get it turned off before any damaged happened.

The engine shop have accepted full liability and they are paying for all costs involved putting it right which luckly is a few hours labour and a new belt.

I'm hoping it's going to be ready for tomorrow and really appreciate all the effort the garage has put into gettting it ready after recieving the car from a couple of dodgy garages who basicly hacked the car to bits. No names Turbo Technics.

This has been one stressful month and surprised i'm not grey from it.
