Oh dear sounds like my old problem!

Mine sounds like it's in reverse in 1-3 then quiet in 4 and 5.

First check you have enough oil in the box, should be around 3.5 US quarts, add some gearbox Molyslip and drive for a few miles and listen?????????

4th and 5th have additional support in the box, when you engage these a rod and ring slide forward to support them but not in 1-3.

My problem was because i didn't have enough oil in the box and the front or input shaft bearing didn't get enough oil and buggered up!

Try the oil first though and see how you get on.

How many miles has it done.........over 50k?
