When I heard that Lewis Hamilton has decided to leave the UK,and move to Switzerland to escape the media attention, only one thing popped in my head.

I have just nicked this blog from the Top Gear website, and the last sentance confirms my theory......

Hamilton's off

No, not from McLaren, but to the modern racing driver's residence of choice; Switzerland.

Lewis says that he's moving to escape the aggressive media attention that he's experienced since exploding onto the Formula One circuit at the beginning of this year.

"It was a tough decision. My dream for years was to move to London," he told BBC Sport.

"When I was coming up I knew there were sacrifices. You don't understand what that means until you get there and really struggle to lead a normal life."

Rather ironically, the news arrives the day after his hometown of Stevenage announced its intention to name a street after him.

"Everyone in the town is enormously proud of the fact that Lewis comes from Stevenage," said council leader Sharon Taylor.

Some UK F1 fans have already voiced their disappointment at him leaving his own country, yet he joins established superstars Alonso, Raikkonen and Michael Schumacher who haven't experienced any dip in support from their countries of origin.

And considering who his new neighbours are, it's not too surprising that Hamilton's chosen the country he has.

That and the low rate of tax...

I agree Al, but why dress it up with lame excuses, when everyone knows why he's doing it.

Another bunch of them (like Coulthard) like in Monaco, tax reasons again ....

makes them feel better if they think they are going for reasons other than to save loads of cash lol

He has Fooked off for the tax, Don't really blame him.

I do think the bloke has the potential to become one enormous PR1CK

to be honest.

:(

He needs to become a caractor, F1 is full of boreing planks at the moment, oh yeah and imagine his tax bill if he stayed here.

We should be moaning at our own polititians getting Tax relief on the extra 24K they are allowed to spend on Londan housing as a 'necessary expense as part of the role' and then when they buy the house they declare thier london homes as their 'Main' residence and get full tax relief on a profit when they sell them on.....I'm sorry but we all know why Lewis is doing it, but when are own domiciled law makers do it then good luck to the guy.....He can't say outright the same as i can't tell you how much work i did for cash last year but everyone avoids tax in some way or other...

if i was in his shoes id piss off somewhere else to avoid the press.

He's hardly the most famous person in the UK so the reason is obviously b*llsh*t, but i don't blame him one bit. His job is based all over the world so it doesn't really matter where he lives, if the so called "celebrities" in this country (Amy Winehouse, Kate Moss etc) could move abroad and still be famous they would.

But they can't. So we're stuck with them.

I think you are a bit wide of the mark there.

Did you the reception he got last night at the Television Awards he stole

the show. I would say he is probably as famous as Beckham was when he lived here. But where as the Beckhams courted the press and public

(lets face it the Dog bone of a wife of his only has the fact she is a clothes horse to cling to) Hamilton obviously does not want it.

He still fooked of for the money though :D

What I meant was on a Global scale, he's not the most well known celeb FROM the UK. At the moment anyway. I bet Beckham gets far more attention than him when he goes out.

Although I've no doubt he WILL become one of the most famous names from Britain in the near future.

Still deffo all about the money though :D

why do we build up our sportsmen so we can pull em down, i dont give a feck where he lives as long as he gets the job done and wins races....jeez
