spent most of the day flat on my back taking the foglights out so i could fit my white led sidelights i also fitted my hid's and as i fitted the crystal indicators a while back they had an extra bulb holder in the sides so i wired those up to the sidelights ...dead easy just scotchlock onto the wires for the sidelights and run a wire round to the other bulb holders all i need now is some more led bulbs ( which are on order ) to complete the front light set up i think it freshens the front end up and once im out of traction ill take her for a spin in the dark lol

Why were you led on your back removing the fog lights?

You can reach the wires once you take the old sidelight/indicator out.

Looks good, welcome to the club!!

what do you think im asking santa for lol

How do you upgrade the full beam to hid's aswell then?

i would think you would have to buy another full hid kit , ballasts bulbs etc cos ive looked at mine and i dont think you can run 2 bulbs from 1 ballast im not 100% sure

Correct!

And to anyone who says that 'They will burn out too quickly' or whatever..... How often do you really use your high beam? I hardly ever use mine, and as for flashing someone, well maybe once in two months or so. So the life expectancy wont really be affected much at all.

Oh right,

Is it really worth doing though?

as my understanding is Hid's are really good and don't really use your high beam much if at all.

There is a mod on here some where so you can run both your full beam and Hid's all the time that may be a cheaper option.

There you go, the mod for having the dip beam remain on with the full beam.

Looks really good mate. :hyper:

your HIDs look a little purple are they 8000k?

The LEDs look really good, do you mind telling us all where you got them from?

Cheers, Mike...

have you earthed the hids? so they stay on when you put main beam on.

Also you can upgrade your mains with Ring 80w suprbrights, they match the colour of the HIDs.

Now for the side lights/ indicators - leds in fogs ok, but if you put fogs on will melt leds, so upgrade to H3 leds!

Amber LED indicators will need ballasts added to stop fast flash syndrome.

That's a really good write up.

Does that not do the same mod as earthing one of the wires though?

No, I can't remember without going into the full details again, but I beleive just earthing it out doesn't do the full job.

** That write-up isn't by me ;)

with the simple earthing:

when you have no lights on and flash your full beam the dipped flash as well as the full beam

with the full mod as per the word document:

when you have no lights on and flash your full beam only the full beam flashes

hi mate

yeah the hids are 8000 i got the led bulbs off fleabay for about 5 quid wish i'd have bought 2 sets now lol

Oh yeah, that's it ;)

The problem with that is if you have HID's then you'll be flashing them with just the earth mod, which isnt really a good idea.

Just got the Kingwood HID kit. Inside the box is a short Instruction sheet which simply says 'connect the black lead to earth for keeping dip beam on with main beam'.

Has anyone done either set up?

What's the pitfall by just using the 'black to earth' bit?

Why would the suppliers/dealer add a note like that if it was not kosher or dubious?

thanks Chris

ps where do you cable tie the HID power units for best effect and safety?

my auto-sparky may be dragged into this if the black-to-earth option is a poor lash-up!!

right

what they are saying is a basic headlight mod to keep the hid's on whilst you flash your lights, its often used when you want to fit uk spec bulbs to a jap spec car, he is sujesting it to save on hid bulb life, the downside to this is when you flash your lights when the dip is off the hid's come on as well, lowering hid bulb life, you can just connect the wires up as standard bulbs but when you use full beam when dip is on the hid's will switch off , yet again lowering hid bulb life, if you do the proper sparky mod niether of these happen.

Most people fit the balast units under the centre panel

Beginning to wonder if it's worth all the hassle - has anyone here actually done the full wiring gig?

I'v just got used to not using full beam or flashing, one because you don't need full beam in the dark with HID dipped beam, and secondly i have got used to not flashing people and being very selfish when driving. LOL

I agree but i am getting used the wavy hand signal instead now!

I tried this at the weekend but i think i disconnected something or blew a relay when i was monkeying around under the fusebox. Hold your breathe for a very confused and fustrated post when i cant get it working again.

As far as the mod goes it is pretty simple. The worst bit is threading a wire through the firewall to get to the light pod but that has been done before.

PS you can get the relay you need from Nissan Sunny's. Almeras and Micras didnt seem to have the right one when i was at the scrappy. Take along the picture because there is 2 different types of the blue relay

OK I'm on a long, bendy, dark unlit section of A road at night when it's black with no sun. I'm thinking, 'I need the best possible vision here, the long advanced view', so I er, wave my hand?

I want to indicate to an HGV driver that he can pull in ahead of me as he's cleared my front end (yes, it can happen!!) so I wave my hand?

Guess it's the full wiring jobbie then.

Honestly earthing the hids is no problem, how often do you flash in daylight!

With the 80w Ring superbrights ( £15 on ebay ) added to mains, they are same colour as hids and give appreciable extra light when both on.

thought about doing relay as got spare relay, but the thought of cutting into wires and disturbing the fuse box scared the living daylights out of me. zed wiring not the most stable?

Thats quite a good idea for night time driving, how do i earth them. Do i just run a wire from the neg wire and earth against the body somewhere - is it that simple. I don't wanna go the whole nine yards with relays etc... so if i can use full beam when my lights are already on, that would be fine for me, because like you said, you don't often have to flash in daylight anyway. lol
