Hi,

I'm looking at fitting a splashback in my Mum's kitchen and need to know the difference between 430 and a DP1 grade stainless steel, anyone know?

Thanks

Vijay

Thanks bud. Already looked on there though (google search) but couldn't see any mention of DP1 :(

DP 1 is a cheap type of 304 stainless which is commonly used for kitchen equipment such as sinks, worktops, splashbacks, ect. theres absolutely loads of stainless types which all vary on price depending on mainly the percentage of nickel and chrome thats in it. an example : 304 GENERAL (like sinks) is worth around £140-160 per metric tonne, 304 FOUNDRY GRADE is worth around £1500-1750 per metric tonne.

We use 410, 304 & 316 (occasionally) at our work.

410 is the cheapest by far, and is classed as a 'chrome/iron' because it has a negligable amount of nickel in it.

304 & 316 are substantially more expensive because of their high nickel content.

High nickel content = high rust resistance, but 410/430 has chrome in place of nickel to achieve the same thing ;)

Something I found about 430 http://www.fanagalo.co.za/tech/tech_grade_430.htm Note about the 'good corrosion resistance'..... It should be ok for the kitchen.

Now as to DP1 grade? I really have not come accross that before. But a quick search on Google seems to find a lot of associations between DP1 & food grade 304/316 types.

In my eyes... 430 probably will do the job (is the same material as S/S tableware), 304 would do it better(no chance of rust), 316 better still but no point spending the extra cash.

HTH & i haven't just waffled on for ages.... LOL
