Hi I'm changing the tail gate on my red SWB NA this weekend and just wondered if there are any help full tips for removal and refit.

I was thinking that removing the roof lining and unbolting it from there would be best for refiting. Never having done it before i just wondered if this was the best and easiest way.

Yep, pull the roof lining back is the easiest way.

I'd be tempted to do that first, leave the nuts on a few threads, and release the hinge from the panel, as they are glued in place!!

Then unbolt the struts from the tailgate, with some assistance from someone who can help lift it, it is very heavy!! Or a broom handle!

Then remove the plastic panels, and unplug the wiring loom inside, and thread it out through the top. This way you will not need to cut any wires.

Then release the nuts from the last few threads, and with some help from another person, lift away!

IT is very heavy, dont try lifting on your own!!

I wouldn't attempt this one on my own as the OEM spoiler must be holding about 2 gallon.

Mark, honestly, I cant tell you how heavy the dam thing is without the spoiler, so with 2 ton of water that makes it 2 ton plus fookin heavy!!

You can get to the nuts without removing the lining. Well I could on my LWB. Here is what i did....

1) Remove panels and undo the wiring from the tailgate. Unbolt the struts and you will need someone to hold this while you do it.

2) Put the tailgate up as far as you can. i suspended it there by using a brush steel.

3) You should be able to see the nuts now and get to them using an open ended spanner leaving the last few threads to the end.

4) remove the nuts and tailgate being careful of the wiring as it comes out of the tailgate.

You will need 2 people to do this mate. Takes about 15 mins to remove and the same to refit
