Is it possible to get my road tax without the mot certificat present?

it will be mot and i could have the number off the mot certificate if there is one.

I thought about taxing it online as all you need is the number off your v5 and reg number and the system checks for the insurance and tax but i read on their website that if you purchase your tax online it is still illegal to drive the car without the tax disk present. although you only just did it online.

So i need to get my tax from the post office but without the mot certificate present.

just call up mate. It is the simplest thing ever. all automated and they check your insurance and MOT validity electronically. They send it out there and then 1st class and i got mine the next day. It was also dubious first time round but was backed into a corner by laziness and bank holidays but would never go back to the post office route and everyone who i have convinced to phone agrees. I think you might need the road tax reminder/renewal form with you for a refererence number if anything.

If the vehicle is MOT'd and is updated on the VOSA systems.. and provided its not an HGV yes you can get it taxed... but not at a post office, only at DVLA. or online (they will check the MOT status on their systems)

I taxed mine online on sunday and the disk turned up on tuesday.

You should get it before the end of tis month.

trust me. try the phone method out. It is one phone call that is no queuing because there are no human operators and it might even be freephone or national rate.

All MOT stations that aren't still using bow drills will be on the VOSA system so you should be alright there.

Trust me it is just as easy online.

You only have to type in the reference number on the reminder and all the details come up.

Pay by debit card. Job done.

Cool this could be my answer, there is a DVLA office within walking distance.

So DVLA can issue Tax disk if you have a mot but it's not on you. Lets hope the system is pretty much instant then so it's all updated by the time i go in there.

yeah the internet is just as easy as the phone but in this case neither will help me. basicly the car has been off the road for 2 years. the car will hopefully get a MOT tomorrow and i want to get my tax tomorrow but i can't get the Tax disk from the garage hense being able to get the number from it. As you can imagine i'm very eager and excited to drive my car after 2 years so i can't wait a extra day i want to drive it that night i pick it up. It is illegal to drive a car without a tax disk displaid even if it is actually taxed, both the phone and internet will take a couple of days to come through.

lol really, what do you do for a living?

I work for them

I have my own car tax nightmare... I bought my car from a work mate, but in a recent house move he has lost a folder with ALL his paperwork - V5, MOT, everything. I bought it anyway thinking i could get it all sorted at the DVLA local office.

I got the car MOT'd, insured and then called the DVLA - they told me I could have taxed the car there or online, but only if the details on the log book havent changed. I now have to wait 4-6 weeks for the V5 to come through before I can tax it, and its not allowed on the road until then!

you could give the tax disc money to your work mate (as the car is still in his name) and he could tax it for you.... ;)

There is a way around EVERYTHING

 Any chance of doing mine on the sly then? LMAO

lol... well we've never had a 300ZX as a company car... so it might be a tad difficult :D

Mind you I'll do it for you.... but it will cost you nearly £200 for 12 months! :p
