when you have done a few 8-10hours

first time allow 2-3 days. Depends if you want to run the oem pipework for clutch and little things that take longer.

what greg said .....

if you do-it-yourself...2/3day's ....if a garage does it ...then your looking at about 9 to 11 hours work ..IF all goes well ....

Sorry to hijack, but I have a manual conversion to do to my 300 TT. I am more worried (if thats the correct word) about the wiring. I have a full donor car and have heard about changing the alternator loom between the cars but surely the wiring can be joined/spliced without changing a loom. Anyone got a guide as to what wires/colours are linked/joined.

Cheers John

I know either way is gonna be work but whats the normal or easiest route. Cheers for the link BTW.

Nah paying someone here that has no experience doing it is scarey, at least if I make an arse of it its only me to blame.....it sounds quite straightforward in a kinda difficult way...if that makes sense. Am gonna try and do a stage by stage photo record of me doing it so I aint ina rush....2 0r 3 days....will prob take me 2 or 3 months :smash:

Easiest way I found to do the loom is to get a manual loom for the gearbox, cut the 8 pin large plug off, (THE PLUG THAT SITS BEHIND THE O/S HEADLAMP), cut the 6 pin plug off of the auto loom, and solder the wire back together, mounting the 6 pin head to the manual loom, you will have a wire left, yellow and green I think, dont worry about it. All you need to do then is run a length of twin core cable along the length of the manual loom for the reverse switch, and tag it into the reverse trigger on the old auto plug mounted behind the PAS pot.

Today I removed the alternator loom from my manual donor car so what u said makes sense. I am gonna be hopefully gettin the box out the car soon so I can start the swap. Cheers for the info and sorry again for butting into someone else's thread.

The biggest problem with doing the conversion is ensuring you have all the bits to complete it, this can be obtained either by comparing the two systems in the parts manual or asking someone who has already done one. The areas which normally catches people out are the flywheel spigot bush, auto and manual are different, having bolts for the flywheel and clutch, bolts for the clutch pedal attachment to bulkhead, and all the gearstick gator assembly, 2 rubber gators, leather gator a couple of plates with fixing bolts and screws. The rest is straightforward but the box is heavy, both the auto coming out and the manual going in. To save a load of mess take the torque convertor off with the box, i.e., disconnect it from the mounting plate which has the starter ring on it and leave it on the splined gearbox shaft, otherwise oil goes everywhere and a slippery floor is the last thing you need doing this.
