Hi there,

I have had my Nissan 300zx fairlady for a few years now but I have encountered my first problem. My engine seems to be over heating and I suspect it might be the heater matrix but it is not confirmed although water did come into the passenger footwell.

I need to get it fixed and am looking to get advice on where to take it around the Dunblane, Perth area.

Cheers.

If there's water in the footwell, it definitley points to the matrix - quite easy to bypass as a temp fix (or permanent!) - search for matrix bypass - just need a short length of coolant hose and some clips... it's a pig of a job to replace!!

That does mean you lost your heater though, and its coming into winter.

There aint a lot of Z specialists around up here, Ive posted a small list of garages on a separate thread, you could try one of those, however any decent garage local to you should manage to do the repairs you require, provided youve not cooked the engine when its overheated.

Ossian, Its not on the top of my priority list at the moment as we have just moved back to Dunblane and have a shed load of things to do first including a new extension. The car is still up in Perth just now so I think I will take it to a garage up there. My brother has had a few scoobies and has dealt with AWD in Inveralmond before so I might just take it there. :headvswal

Fitted a new radiator to my Zed yesterday, used to idle at about 95 and got way over 100 when driving it hard. Now it idles at 83 rising up to 86, still only running with water in so hopefully it might drop a degree or 2 when I put some coolant in and fit the new rad cap I have on order!

Hi Stu,

As Alan says it's not that hard (on an Auto at least) just remember to take the seat out first unless you're a contortionist! It’s only 4 bolts and gives you much more room to work. I’ve got a matrix that’s been sitting in the garage for a couple of years – it's your if you want it. (I just ran an air line through it under water and no sign of any leak)

Thanks very much that would cut down the repair costs for me.

How much do you want for it ?
