I am already running SETI!

I started it when it first came out for a few weeks and I decided to start again from fresh. I have been doing it for about a month and a half and I have done 60 units. biggrin.gif

when you first started what program was you running?

i remeber mine was nout like now!totally shite!then daft questionares asking for dosh!did you ever send out?jay

SETI is basically radio transmission taken from radio telescopes when they are not in use, searching for radio signals from other star systems. They use telescopes from all over the world, they have so much data that they dont have enough CPU power to analyse it all. So they made a program where home users can look at a small portion of the data then send them the results. You can either run it all the time in the back ground, not really effecting your performance, but you do notice it on games, or as a screen saver, so it only runs when you are not using your computer. They say at the moment that over 10,000 years of processing has been done in a few years, so it helps.

Cant remember what it looked like before though, Jaylox. Looked about the same but I know that the new one does more tests on the data.

SEARCH FOR EXTRA TERESTRIAL INTELIGENCE

well this is a way of helping, now that the USA government has fucked these guys off!

MAYBE ITS COS THE USA GOVERNMET KNOW ALL ABOUT IT,IT WOULD BE ONE BIG WASTE OF MONEY IF THEY HAVE ALREADY MADE CONTACT!!!

same goes for the moon landings ,NEVER HAPPENED!!

I have a whole batch of periodicals (about 1 yrs worth) discussing various research techniques and how to implement the technology etc. from the SETI project, I'm only interested in the technology involved though.

I havn't seen them for a while but if anyone is interested I can scan some of the interesting bits & send them on?.

If your referring to my stuff then your welcome to some scanned pictures of the documents, however you may have to wait a little while because it got boxed up when I moved four years ago and has remained 'out-of-sight' since then!. I will e-mail the stuff to you, is that ok?.

I ran SETI for quite a while and it certainly used to be the case that the command-line version was much, much faster than the windows version. If you want to complete work units faster it may be worth switching.

I'm currently using my spare CPU cycles for the United Devices cancer research project.
