Hi

my 300zx has developed a problem when the car eventually starts it runs for around 20 minutes hen jus cuts out( like the ignition has been turned off) the weird thing is no management light comes on, so im guessing that its a problem with a sensor like the air flow meter, map sensor etc and it appears the problem occurs when the engine is warm, so i was wondering if any one knows of any common problems or a way in which i can diagnose the fault as im guessing no fault codes will be generated as the management light doesn’t come on, any help would be greatly appriciated.

Most likely it's the Power Transistor Unit (PTU), if it's a series I device they tend to fail when hot.

could be the power transistor unit (ptu) try cooling it down with a damp cloth after it dies . if it re starts its a good indication its failing when it gets hot

good luck

thanks for the quick reply i will give it a try. if it is the ptu any idea of cost to replace? also i think that the car is it safety boost mode as no real kick in from the turbo is there a fault code for this or is the best way jus to plug in a good boost gauge?

You can get a series II PTU for anything between £85 - £135 depending on 2nd hand/new etc.

There may well be error codes that indicate the cause of being in safety (standard) boost, or to be more accurate that prevent it from going to extended boost, but this is by no means guaranteed. Sometimes it comes down to a bit of old fashioned detective work.

Pogz, Have you checked out this thread ?

We're both in Hemel.

I was driving his beast when it broke down ( twice )

Is it easy to tell if you've got a series I or series II PTU ?
