I am putting a warning up to all those who were part of the group buy on the indiglo dials.

 

My main speedo cluster stopped lighting up the other day. I finally got a chance to investigat the problem today and found the problem.

 

where the connections join the dial, it has cracked and kind of melted! The problem is the connection is a little too big to fit in the housing so it needs to be bent slightly.

 

I will be contacting MyGarage to arrange a replacement as soon as I can but I thought that I am unlikely to be the only person affected by this.

 

I thought I should add some pics for those that are interested...

one good thing is ,i still have not fitted these so let me know how you get on ..;)

I know you can buy a replacement inverter but my dials have a dimmer function as well as a colour change function so it,s slightly different to the ebay ones , anybody seen a replacement inverter with these functions ??

I broke my connector the first time I fitted the bloody things :).

 

Vijay sent me another though, but haven't fitted it as the car has been off the raod since.

What you have with electro-luminescent sheets is a positive and a negative sheet sandwiched together. They have 110vac running through them, that has been inverted from the 12vdc supply that has been supplied from the battery (as stated, no much current but a lot more voltage) If you bend them in anyway at all you stand a very good chance of shorting the two half's out. This will do one of two things, either stop the sheet from glowing, or, worse case scenario, burn out the inverter.

Best bet on fitting them if the is a space issue, would be to mod the housing and not the sheet/fittings.

Thats what I did mate. Fitted them over a year ago and have been fine until tonight. When I fitted them I realised I would have to bend the connection but as it looked a bit fragile I modded the housing and they fitted fine.

have had no problems with mine work ok but the colour change option has stopped working ...maybe its the small hard plastic tab thingy with two triangle buttons on it thathas broken im not sure but . like i say other than that two years trouble free

Strangely enough the colour change on mine has stopped working now!

 

I wonder if it will be better when I fit the new speedo dial again?

My boost gauge has stopped working since i took the dash out.

 

Swapped the inverter wires and thats not the problem

 

Do the dials have like little spade connectors inside (pics at the top)

 

or do I need a new set?

I got a replacement inverter from you when mine packed up but thats still working ok

 

Dials were fitted to the car when I bought it.

can you post/send me a pic of the dial you need, I may have one :)
