Yesterday I had a red light show up on the dash, had a look in the manual and it aint on there, might be be because it's a jap car and a uk manual. It's on the right hand side of the hand brake light. it's red and looks like something with heat waves coming off it.

Its the Cat overheat light. It means unburnt fuel is igniting in the exhaust system. This is usually becuase 1 or more cylinders has a missfire. Could be poor coilpack connection or PTU problem.

Could it be where I turned the engine off while going down the road, accelerator stuck open?

mine used to come on sometimes after booting it or driving up a long hill even when was running fine. Old cats can get full of crap which gets hot

mines does it now and again when booting it around for a while! i have no cats but the sensor is still on the exhaust

Had the same light come on when bootin it, in one of my old zeds, never did anything about it cos it only happened when i was raggin it.

mine comes on and of from time to time when going over a rough road surface..... Sensor in top notch condition!

same light a while ago. Intermittent problem. Had garage remove lambda's to do a change but the one's supplied to me were wrong size upon removal.

I Changed to optimax in the meantime and added an apexi air filter intake, reset the ecu and not seen it since. I have new lambda's to go in to be on the safe side which were supplied by DTA here on the group. Never had a misfire when light was coming on or otherwise, also nissan(aka d~ckweeds) did an engine diagnosis and nothing was wrong except a guess of maybe suspect lambda.
