Hi all i'm posting this for an elderly gent who just bought my UK clocks for his jap TT, very nice chap but i think he's been given bad advice. He says none of the dials work on the clocks he has bought from me, he said the origional clocks also didn't work except the boost gauge and the replacement clocks he bought before mine also do not work. He also says he has no power steering and the guy who sold him the car said this is because the clocks don't work??? I don't see why his power steering won't work because of the clocks, he is going to change the speed sensor on his gearbox as someone suggested but i can only see this maybe fixing his speedo and nothing else. Any advice i could pass on is very much appreciated as i hate seeing people taken for a ride.

Thanks in advance,

Steve.

Does he have clock lights?

Does he have any indication of slight movement in the clocks when powered up ?

i would be checking power supply and fuses first if it were me.

there are speed sensors that control the power steering, but im unsure if any in the dash clocks will stop it working.

the signal from the speed sensor goes to the speedo and then onto the ecu. the ecu controls the variable power steering. if it gets no signal it asumes worst case that you are traveling fast and sets the power steering to it's heavyest setting.

possibly as it's a jap he has broken or badly installed km/h to m/h converter or dodgy speed sensor or broken wire or fuse.

whereabouts? maybe there is some one local to him who could look at it

Will find out where he lives.

By none of the clocks does he mean the fuel, oil and temp as well?

What about the rev counter. If none of them are working then it would deffinately suggest power supply problem.

As above for the power steering, it is affected by the speedo not working.

If he has access to a computer then perhaps get him to post up on here as it will be easier that way than going through a third party.

Thats probably a better idea, he might be a young guy lol, i've only spoken to him on the phone and by the way he was talking (very polite) i've assumed him to be older. His name is John, i'll try and get him to post on here though maybe join up.

Its a fuse in the foot well. A 10amp I carn't remember which one, but it is defo that. I've got the Tshirt and ate the pie, but the book was boring.

The power steering is effected by the signal from the clocks so it stops power steering working. He proberbly blew the fues changing the clocks over.

I have a 1993 UK 300 TT and am breaking a UK 1990 TT. My point is that the speedo on the nachered car wasnt working so I stripped my 'working' can to put the clocks on it with a view to making sure they are ok. To my amazement the 3 connectors are different, I think if I remember the single one fits but one of the other 2 is a different plug. The older car the plugs sit vertical, the newer car they are horizontal, could it be a similar thing like that whereby the unit isnt compatible. Maybee a lot of mince but just something I noticed with mine...stripped the dash for feck all.

Cheers John

Series 1 and series 2/3 had different connectors though the important wires are still the same colour so you can swap the plugs over.

It is either the Meter which would make sence or the Audio fuse even though that sounds stupid. It has happened to me im my SWB's and they are both Jspec so it just says 10A Sqwigaw sqwigaw and 10A Sqwigaw sqwigaw. I had replaced the clutch box and clutch master on one and somehow blew the fues. The other I was trying to kill the fecking speed alarm behind the clocks and blew the fues.

That's right. What I did was swap the new clocks into the old case.

Thanks for all the replys guys, ive passed on the info and he says he will be joining the club. He said he hadn't checked for any blown fuses so here's hoping thats all it is. His car is a Jap Series 2 ,TT manual so the fuse box is in japenese so i've told him that someone has been kind enough to post a pick on here. He said he has always loved these cars and was holding on until he found a manual. Oh and he lives in Windsor.
