When my dad switches the lights on in his zed, they 'pulsate', like they are constantly flashing quite quickly - but they are not flashing they are only dimming ever so slightly (hence the phrase pulsating).

Apologies if that sounds stupid but i am struggling to put the problem into words. It has done it since he owned the car it is not a new problem. And it is not just the headlights, it is all the lights including interior speedo head lights etc....

Any idea what it is and what has to be done?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

Does it do it when on sidelights as well?

It may be that part of the alternator is not working and thus you are not getting enough output when under more load.

Try using a tester on it, you should get a constant 14 to 15 volts I believe.

I am probably way off the mark however and someone wit more knowledge may be along to shot me down in flames soon.

Good luck with it.

Cheers Darrell,

I'll try just the sidelights soon, however from memory i think it still does it then.

Anyway if anyone else has a suggestion it is more than welcome.

Thanks.

Just tried the car,

It does'nt do it with engine switched off.

And it 'pulsates' even quicker when the sidelights are on, on their own, with the engine switched on.

Off to bed now, but please keep sending the advice/suggestions and i'll pick it up tomorrow. :)

Just for future reference if anybody happens to have the same problem, it was infact the alternator. Replaced that with a good second hand one and hey presto problem solved :D :nana2: :duffer:
