Cambelt & Japs?

Car is a 1992 N/A Jap Import. Imported in 2003, now got 59K on the clock (miles).

My question is, I am driving to blackpool tomorrow from nottingham (120 miles) and obviously back again.

I am looking to change the cam belt but need to know, do Jap folk generally look after their motors as I do not know if it has been changed or not? What are the chances that it has been, being an import?

Dont take a chance best to get it changed before it breaks, especially if you are unsure. Its not about whether someone in Japan took great care of their car, its not worth the hassle/expense if it breaks.

Cheers John

Cambelt is due for replacment as part of the 60k mile service schedule.

The easy answer is - yes, generally the Japs look after there motors with strict servicing.

However......unless you have proof that the mileage is genuine.....then you never know how long ago it "should" of been replaced and If it is genuine then it probably went up for sale before the 60k mark to avoid cambelt replacement costs.

Its not going to suddenly snap on you when it hits 60,000 miles though but if unknown its best to get is changed with a full 60k service when you can.
