i was thinking about subaru 284 is it? pickup thing!

wouldnt mind primera though, missus has an almera which has never let us down in 135k

Vauxhall Carlton but on the diplomat version. Had a few of these and great cars to drive. I prefer the 2.6 but its not gonna help too much if you want to save fuel lol.

2.9 is fine and if you go for an auto they are soo nice to drive.

£500 car....................... Got to be Japanese or German, for reliability, parts etc.

CITROEN XANTIA Diesel.

Will see you 350,000 miles and can go round the earth twice on £20 worth of fuel. Not very glamorus but i nice ride and reliable. And can pick them up for pennies!

Have to agree and if you get a turbo one the performance isn't bad.

Surely teh saving money bit is dependent on the insurance as well. That will be where most of teh money goes. It seems the older the car these days the more the insurance. They must think cos it is old that you won't care aboutit and go round crashing into everyone.

Just another thing to think about.

Laguna's are good cars. :)

no, they are not. They have a strong reputation for their unreliability, with particularly bad problems with gearboxes and drivetrain components.

my old laguna I had 4 years and only needed a starter motor in that time.

the citroen I just bought opn beharf of my brother as he just crashed his old mazda!

Had a couple before and they are fine as long as the suspension doesnt fail

Ive bought lots of cheap cars and most have been very reliable.

Several Xantias including an Activa Turbo 2.0 which is pretty nippy

Carltons, Chryslet Neon for grandparents who love it. Corsa Van now ownerd by brother in law and he thinks its great.

Xantia's are good dont worry about the suspension, its easier to fix than a normal car, gearbox is the one to watch on these as the are a right pig, especially on the diesel.

ohh and um.......................a Skoda Favorite lol

Meh, you buy a lemmon you pay the cost

i bought an N reg golf tdi estate for £600,120k but just had all brake pipes done, timing belt 30k ago, freezing cold air-con, loads of receipts, cheap to run (around 400 miles to £40) and cheap to insure, cant go wrong.
