Hey Guys

Iv just had the car back from getting the I.C.E Fitted, iv got a seriously strong fuel smell coming from the petrol tank area

I looked underneath the car and on the passenger side there is a leak from the pipe that actually connects to the tank itself........

Im guessing this is whats wrong........what do i need to do to get round this and get it fixed......is it a new tank or a new pipe or is there a seal that may need replacing

Any ideas?

Faisal

there is a rubber 'o' ring there but i would guess at the neck of the petrol feeder pipe, I would'nt imagine that you would'nt need to remove the tank to replace this part. The neck connects to the tank with 6x6mm bolts at the tank side but I dont know about around the filler cap. I am in the middle of replacing my tank at the moment I'll see if I can take a pic tomorrow m8.

Yep its the pipe with the 6 bolts on it which directly connects to the tank....

Around that area it seems to be leaking slowly but bad enough either way

Would i be able to get the seal re done without any major work and would it solve the problem......somebody once told me that petrol tends to eat through everything.....just wanna make sure it will solve the problem

Thanks for any advice and help

I'd wait and see if someone with more experance replies as I've not done too many mechanical jobs on cars (I am currently struggling like *"$""! to get my fuel tank back in but I dont think that you will need to take the tank out. I would replace with a jap pipe myself as UK's are showing age now. I have a spare 'o' ring here if you would want it as a precaution if you strip it down and the seals gone at least you would have a spare. I will try to photo for you later forgot yesterday.

The filler pipe often corrodes through as it's a mud trap up there...

I've got one doing nothing in the garage - PM me your address and I'll send it to you FOC - I've a fuel tank you can have as well FOC, but it's collect only - Ipswich.

Good luck

Jack

I replaced mine as it had started to rust after being exposed to and trapping mud.As stated already 6 bolts & an o ring at the tank, just a semi flexible rubber seal type thing which can be a bugger to move at the cap end and a few bolts holding it to mounting points and a vent hose, would check the area behind the pipe under the underseal by giving it a scrape as deffo a rust trap, waxoil underseal etc.

Thank you fellas for the help, got a mechanic to come down and have a look at it.....hopefully he'l be able to figure out what the problem is

Iv pm'd both of you regarding the bits....

If anyone else can shed some light then that will be much appreciated

Iv also attached a picture of the leak from the hose to the tank to give you a better look

Thanks

Directly behind there is an o ring, bet thats your prob either split or missing.

Well the tank has never been removed or changed so i guess the o ring has just packed in and called it a day....either way im gonna try and replace both the o ring and connecting hose and hopefully that will stop the damn thing from leaking any further

Thanks for the help mate

That looks like the filler neck has cracked where it joins to the flange tbh mate. Replace that pipe, along with with the o-ring but you might have a big job with it being adapted for the wide arch conversion....

Just out of interest Andy what would make the pipe crack? could the act of conversion put extra strain on the flange,i never noticed that little wet spot first time round but on 2nd view, i concur fella.
