Just had my autobox fixed and the car is great, only one problems! RPM!! Every now and again when braking and stopping hard the engine loses revs and stalls, this does not happen all the time, only occasionally!

Also, the revs seem to fluctuate up and down by maybe 200-300RPM. Any thoughts.

If you have "just" had your box done, i think ive read that your ecu needs to learn all the settings etc again, so is it possible that its just the ecu not set right yet ?

If your car was ok before you had your autobox fixed it could be the torque convertor is not performing properly.

Great, another problem! Always seems to be something!

One of the torque convertors jobs is to allow the engine to continue turning when braking and at stop/idle, so if your car is stalling when breaking and you have just had the autobox done it would seem the torque convertor would be the problem. Or not lol :wack:

can anyone tell me where the sensors are that may require cleaning. Just want to cover everything before i go down the mechanic route. Also how do you fix the torque converter or check it.

Testing the torque convertor is a specialist job as is repair as they are sealed units. (i could be wrong though) The cheapest solution could be to buy a good used (low milage) or new tc. The problem with buying a used one is you don't know if its full of crap that could contaminate your gearbox and cause more damage. Changing the tc is a fairly straight forward job but its a pain in the ass to remove the gearbox for a second hand tc only for it to fail a few hundred miles later.

Best to check all other possibilities first before changing the tc.

Speed sensor on box? or could just be temp sensor prob. clean contacts. etc. simple stuff first!

No help to you at all but mine does the exact same, its not an auto, I think mine is idle control valve or temp sensor related, some days its fine next day its a pig and cuts out when you come to a stop, good luck finding it and let me know when you do :wack:

in case it matters, it doesnt do it half as much when the A/C is on and the revs are higher!

Had the very same problem before my autobox went bust, I was told the same it was sensors needed cleaning but i never got round to it or found out where they were. If you give Mike(Mr.F) at mjp a ring when he's recovered, he'll be able to help you.

I assume the gearbox going wasnt related? Just want to get it fixed, may adjust the base idle see if that helps!

Speed sensor thing is on end of gearbox, best just to replace it.

Temp sensor is on top behind rad, usually yellow, next to sensor for for gauge.

Must be the sensor on the end of gearbox as suggested. My idle is fine now since the manual gearbox.

Reset the ECU today for 2 hours and now everything fine? No more stalling, how weird! Maybe the ecu wasnt reset when I had the new gearbox in and it was trying to talk to my "old" gearbox ecu and not the new one.

I was going to suggest a soft reset, but they would of disconnected battery when gbox changed!
