It seems married life has changed me a great deal. I've become a bit of a DIY freak.

 

I'm just curious to how many of us on here do there own DIY or do you get someone in to do it ?

 

We have 5 weeks until our baby is due and 3 weeks until the mother in law arrives. So from the moment we got back from our wedding 3 weeks ago I've been working flat out as well as working my full time job.

 

So far I've managed to get the following done (outstanding is the stuff not marked with DONE. I'm half way there at the moment, Do you think given what I've done so far I have enough time to get the rest done, or should I call in help ?:

 

Living Room

DONE - Reroute internet cables, patch into the wall and up through the ceiling,

DONE - Reseal and clean Bay window,

DONE - Make Bay window curtain rail, fit curtain rail, fit curtains and tie backs,

DONE - Patch through a phone line,

Wire up the stereo with surround sounds wall mounted speakers,

DONE - Hang Wedding present pictures from Macedonia

 

Kitchen

DONE - Fit tie backs and voil netting on window and patio door

Fit new lights with 30amp transformers,

DONE - Replace integrated fridge door lower left hinge.

 

Extension

DONE - Clear out extension,

DONE - Wire up a light from a separate fuse box switch,

DONE - Wire in a double plug socket,

 

Hallway

DONE - Change the barrel on the front door,

DONE - Hang new interior doors on Bathroom, Guest Room and baby's room,

DONE - Fit new handles and locks on Bathroom, Guest Room and baby's room,

DONE - Hang pictures in hallway.

 

Bathroom

DONE - Build and fit a swing type loft door,

Paint loft door,

DONE - Install Loft Ladder.

 

Loft

DONE - Clear out loft and fit boards to be used for storage,

DONE - Install a double light off of a single switch,

DONE - Reinsulated the expansion tank and overflow tank.

 

Baby's room

DONE - Pull up old floor,

DONE - Fit hardboard draft preventers onto floor boards,

DONE - Replaster walls,

DONE - Seal window and clean,

DONE - Sand down skirting boards,

DONE - Paint walls and ceiling

DONE - Fit new ceiling rose for light,

DONE - Fit new light switch and plug sockets,

DONE - Paint skirting boards,

DONE - Build Cotbed,

DONE - Build double cupboard,

DONE - Build check of drawers with baby changing section on top,

DONE - Fit curtain rail,

DONE - Hang curtains,

DONE - Fit uplight lamp shade,

DONE - Fit new breeze filter,

DONE - Install Baby monitor, temperature gauge, radiator thermometer, mobile cot toy,

Fit shelves,

Hang teddy bear pictures on wall (set of 3).

 

Master Bedroom

DONE - Build swinging crib,

DONE - Build rocking chair with rocking foot stall that matches crib,

DONE - Install Remote control Dimmer Switch

 

Guest Room

DONE - Seal carpet with polyurethane sheets,

DONE - Strip wallpaper,

DONE - Remove, chisel out old or soft plaster,

Re plaster walls,

Smooth and prep walls,

Seal walls with stabilising solution,

Fit an additional light to run off of the same light switch,

Paint Ceiling,

Paint coving,

Reseal and clean window,

Paint Walls,

Rub down and prep skirting boards,

Paint skirting boards,

Install Fitted cupboards,

Buy a sofa bed,

Build computer desk and wire up all pc's and networks to new internet point.

Yeah do everthing myself, fitting a kitchen for my Mum at the moment :) Way too many dodgy so called professionals out there with no pride in their work so had to learn myself ;)
