iv just taken a motor out of a washing machine and id like to wire it upto a plug, id like to know which wires go to power and neutral. the motor has sole writen on the side of it and its made in italy, theres 2 yellow wires on the end of the motor, on the side theres 1 orange, 2 white, 1 brown, 1 light green and on either side theres a black box, one has a yellow wire and the other has a dark green wire and these two wires have a thick outer coating, i think these two wires are for controling the speed

any help will be much appreciated

cheers

Nick

NOOOOOOOO DONT DO IT. washing machine motors use a large capacitor to start them. if you try connecting motor direct to the mains then you may be walking round for the next few days seeing a flash, a big blue one at that. 99% of the time its just the brushes in the motor that wear out, but easily replaced.

Can't you just use a drill attachment like everyone else? :hyper:

I think you need to think about this a bit more, you are gonna need more than just a plug for this, you'll need resisitors and capacitors to control the speed, proper earthing to prevent electrocution, etc.

I'd stick to Dremel. :)

you need to get hold of a old washing machine motor . as they have only 3 wires . + ve - neu and earth . the new ones have alsorts of things happening with them . hence all the wires . look on ebay for one or your local tip .
