I don't really care much for international politics, etc but this gets my back up.

The unification of Europe is something which will benifit all member states in the long run (I know, this is a highly contested point but bear with me on this). Standardisation of currency, government and also measurement is integral to the success of the EU as a whole.

The UK, being physically located very near to the EU can not afford to continue isolating itself from the rest of Europe by refusing to conform. We're not using the Euro as a currency, now we're not using the metric system either, I could go on ...

What the UK is doing is wanting to be part of the EU but at the same time not wanting to play by the rules. And what really gets me is that the UK is getting away with it by means of all sorts of "exception" policies. What is actually happening is that the economic model is changing from a European centric model to something that resembles the US model. So, the way I see it, if the UK continues along this chosen path not only will it isolate itself from the EU (think trade sanctions, etc) but it will slowly become part of the US  Now, I ask you - what would you rather want?

Oh, before anyone asks, I'm not British - I'm Dutch ;)

Isnt Europe where all this human rights *****x sprung from?

Where the criminal takes prefernce in treatment over the victim?

I would be quite happy for us to change from sterling to Euro.

Pointless Question: does anybody's keyboard have a euro symbol on it, I only have £ & $

im very patriotic, why as a nation should we lose our identity?

Im a British Citizen, and proud of it!

It is not about loosing your national identity. None of the current member states have lost their identity. They still have a national government (albeit ultimately governed by Brussels), they each produce their own Euros, etc. Changing your currency doesn't mean you've lost your identity. As far as I'm concerned the British "identity" isn't much to write home about - chavs, extremely weak imigration policy, Gordon Brown ... need I go on?! ;)

You can be a united group of nations yet still have an individual identity and therefore you'd still be able to be a patriot.

Dan

yes but how many ,millions will we have to plough into the EU as a nation and how much of that money will positively affect Britain?

LOL coming from a scientific background I think its rediculous! What bloody use are imperial units? 14 pounds to a stone etc etc what a crock of shit

well if you go into a pub and you can ask for a pint, what will you get a litre????

What Identity?

I didnt realize we still had one. Who really gives a flying fook if a pint of beer is sold in a litre or half litre? What great impact will it have on our exsistance? So what if its 48.28 KHM to get home or 30 Miles? its the same distance.

Like Danny said would you rather become american or european. Because believe me thats what it looks like the choice is heading towards.

There is nothing anyone can do about changing times. Its the way of the world. Its a far better choice to sit back and enjoy the ride rather than to worry about every change in direction that we approach. Nothing you or I or anyone can say or do will make any difference to what they, the governments of this world decided.

I welcome the euro and the metric system with open arms and hope unity will lead us into a world where people stop fighting over trivia and live for once in harmony because we are all the same at the end of the day.

Thank you for being such a good audience

and I welcome your feedback...

Neither does mine. Try Ctrl + Alt + 4 (on the top row) or Alt + 0128 on the keypad.

ha ha. got it. well done that man.

Now how about the japanese sysmbols?

say we went to € (had to do it) econmically what benefit would it hold for the UK? (that is a genuine question)

I can only see the benefit being that we wont have to keep trying to work out what 20 euro's is in real money and the like? But my point is what real difference will it make. It will be no different than the transformation from £.s.& p. to decimal back at the turn of the 70's and everyone went up the wall about it then. Really I dont want my heritage destroyed but I am affraid thats already happening with the influx of so many different cultures into this coun try. I will never be the same as it was and I just think...."OK maybe its time for a change"?

I spose I am fed up with worring about it anymore. I still fly the red cross of st. george But I havent got a clue who the fooker was?

you wont be able to soon Vinni, the church of England want to do away with St George as he was involved in war and it could offend Muslims, i kid you not

!

funny thing is none of the muslims i know give two hoots, so who exactly is making the false assumptions they do and indeed speaking without their knowledge, on their behalf??

Dont get me started? I am a englishman. I do recognise my unity with Scotland, Ireland and Wales as being British. But I am an Englishman. I will not lower my flag for no one and I will fight for my right to remain an Englishman has did my fathers before me. I do not recognise the Church or any religious practise nor do I worship God or any false idol as such. So fook off.

A litre of beer instead of a pint? Thats a fookin deal!!!!

BTW it already changed in one aspect a long time ago - when petrol went from gallons to litres ;)

I still say imperial is *****x - try working anything out with imperial units :wack:

How many cubic inch are our engines? ;)

what would PSI become?

Pascals LOL
