Audio Question....

OK then, not sure if this should be in technical section or not, so apologies in advance to Nico/Craig if i have posted in wrong section.

Cut to chase.....

Since I've had my Z, there has never been a radio in it. So I decide to get a radio and stick it in. Pioneer DEH-P6100R is the head unit and I also bought a harness adapter lead too!!

Got it home, plugged it all in (found an earth for radio) and switched it on. Head unit came alive, but no sound out of speakers.

I have got wiring colours off Andy's site, and set about trying to trace speakers using 1.5v battery and watching cone to move. No luck what so ever. Connected a speaker direct to head unit and I get sound out of it. Plug it in to the car's loom and silence frown.gif

Is there some kind of amp already in the car?? I'm sure I've heard that one before, where is it and what does it look like??

What could be my problem chaps???

Many regards

Robert.

You might have a butchered amp or its fuse might have gone. Not sure where the fuse is for it but thats a good place to start.

Can anyone else help here?

Hi Cos,

Where is the amp, and what does it look like???

I don't suppose for a minute it looks like the ones on the market today with all the aluminium heat sinks is it??

Cheers.

Check out the online manual. I think its near the rear speakers somewhere.

Hi Cos,

I have read a few articles in the online manual, and one of them says there are four amplifiers, one below each speaker. Is this correct??

I will be taking a look underneath plastic and speakers a bit later on to clarify things.

Can anybody else shed any light on amplifier(s') location(s)???

Regards

Robert.

I know on the uk car it has a amp on the same side as the arial bolted to the inner panel in the boot. you will have to remove the grey plastic panel and boot accesories to gain acess. but with the head unit you have ,it would be better to bypass the amp and wire up from head unit direct to rear speakers. then trace which are the front speaker wires at the head unit plug side, I can't remember the colour but there easy enough to sus out.

ps the stereo will still sound shite if youre using the standard speakers.

hia m8 i fitted a kenwood head unit and a kenwood graphic equaliser to mine and i remember that if u plug the harness into the kenny the rears dont work, in the stock head unit the remote lead 4 the rear amp is in the harness so i wired it all up and it worked, thing is once u switch off they dont come back on, by far the cheapest way is wire the speakers direcly 2 head unit bud lot less hassle and sounds better 2.

If you have an import with a Bose system it has 5 amps. If it is one of these, I suggest that you ditch the amps and speakers and fit new speakers as the Bose ones are lower impedance and play up with normal head units.

Otherwise it may be easier just to rewire the speakers.

Ok Guys. Just come in from messing with car (in the rain frown.gif).

Thanks for all replies. Problem solved now.

Using online manual, found the standard amplifier in the boot, and traced the wires from head unit, and those to the two rear speakers.

Just a case of soldering them together and removing amplifier from the car. Now rears work straight from the head unit with no probs.

Car now weighs 1kg less, so better acceleration, braking, cornering and MPG now LOL!

Thanks to Cos, syko, AndrewG, FASTREDZ and davidp for all your help. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif
