I have an Auto TT fairlady, and ever since i have owned it, it stalls when i brake hard - but only when it is cold, once the temp is up to normal it is 100% fine. Oh and when its cold - when i set off the revs dip right down and then pick up as if nothing has happened - only when cold though.

Anybody had this problem or know anything about it???

Its not a major problem as when its warmed up the car is 100%, but its quite annoying when its cold.

I have the similiar problem when you start it from cold,, when its been parked for a while or next morning the car cuts out start it again once or twice then it is fine and will never do that once its been started once that day.

Mine does'nt stall unless i emergency brake. When i brake at junctions it dips really low in revs and nearly cuts out, and it happens whenever my car is cold - once warmed up its perfect.

I had a similar problem a few years ago.

I cleaned the throttle bodies, and most of the sensor connection I could get to, then reset the ECU. Problem hasn't come back since.

I'm no mechanic, will i be able to do that myself. Also how do i reset the ecu, does it have a reset button?

to reset the ecu, all you need to do is disconnect the battery for a good hour, it will reset and then go on self learn. Definitely clean up the coolant temp sensor its the yellow plug on the front of the engine. Also maybe worth cleaning the throttle bodies, fairly straight forward to do, get the relevant cleaner and a toothbrush, take of the pipes to the throttle bodies, wedge open the flaps and give em a good clean out. Ivehad this problem, but after doing all of the above, oh and doing a few tanks of fuelwitht some injector cleaner in, the problem has not come back.

Cheers bud i'll give it a go.

FWIW I had a similar problem until I had to remove the plenum for another job. I took the opportunity to clean up and/or replace all the electrical connectors for the coil packs, injectors, sensors etc etc and the car has never run better and exhibits none of the nasty stalling habits that occasionally caused problems in the past.

Just a quick one Andy, is it very hard to remove the plenum, as eventually i want to chrome it. Now i have a good reason to do it.

It's not diffucult to remove it, just takes a little time.

The problem you may have is that the first time you remove the plenum, you will need to disconnect all the injectors and coil pack connectors as well as pcv pipes etc.

If it's not been done within the last 5 years or so, you may find yourself with more problems than you started with and have to fit new connectors and pipes due to them going brittle over the years and breaking whilst in the plenum removal process.
