The Z just passed it's MOT  (1st one since the decat too  )

So I'm pretty pleased :D

It also has 3 Advisory Items

001 Front (both) anti-roll bar linkage has slight play in a ball joint [2.4.G.3]

I'd like to know what and where these are and what this would cause as I have a strange steering problem ATM

002 Front (both) brake pipes slightly corroded [3.6.B.2c]

Apparently the ones that go from my braided hose to the caliper about 2" long, not to much of a problem

003 Fuel pipe/s corroded

Apparently to ones that go over the rear subframe (not too sure) but again not too much of a problem

What do you people think, especially the 1st ?

Congrats at passing. Quiestion is what is the weird steering problem?

Obviously if part of the front suspension is worn it could cause a problem, I am having problems with mine at the moment, but we need to know the symptoms.

Symptoms are :- when driving in a straight line i.e. on a dual carriage, way the steering wheel is straight, I go down a crease in the road i.e. at a junction and the car twitches slightly and then the steering wheel could be a few degrees right or left to keep straight. It can be a fair battle to keep the car in a straight line but I'm used to it now and it's probably unrelated to the above worn linkages but would like it fixed for a more comfortable drive.

I'm no expert but I would be seeking advice from a professional garage / wheel alignment specialist ASAP. Apart from potentially being dangerous you're probably giving your tyres unnecessary wear.

Grats on passing the MOT though \o/

the problem you are decribing is commonly known as 'tramlining'. There is plenty of info on here about it.

The main theories why it is caused is too wider tread on the front wheels compared to the rears (it seems to be suggested that 225 front and 265 rears is a good starting point), Tracking not correctly adjusted, worn suspension joints particulary the HICAS ball joints on the back. To check if the ball joints are worn jack the rear wheel up and hold at 3'o'clock and 9'o'clock and see if there is any left-to-right movement.

Hope this helps.

Congrats on the MOT pass it is always a relief when it goes through without much $$$ spent!
