Since decating my 300 tt 92 its smoked out of the left bank on tick over when warm

I changed the pcv valves this made no difference so i was getting round to changing the turbos

Ive put the job off for around 5 months

Then guess what its stopped smokin i have drove it in traffic left it ticking over no smoke i even checked the oil level to see if there was any left

Anyone any idea why it has stopped?

around 4 months

I no it sounds daft but ive been trying to make it smoke but theres no smoke what so ever

If it was the pcv valves it took a good 800 to 1000 miles to stop smokin

i wish mine wood :(

Go outside to your car and start off by some gentle stroking of the paintwork and glance every now and then at it lovingly, after a few moments of the glancing and stroking start to caress its mirrors and gentle kiss the windscreen while saying quietly " youre so sexy i love you" .....might work, even if it doesnt get someone to video it as i need a damn good laugh.

ha ha mine plays this trick on me too!!

It`ll be fine for weeks and then it`ll start smokin like a ******* for a bit and then stops again!!!

I belive its possibly the turbo oil seals wearing out and without the cat on you loose that little bit of back pressure that helps hold them in place.

Did it only start to smoke when you had it de-catted??

DONT LET IT FOOL YOU!!

THE SMOKE WILL BE BACK TO GET YA!!

do a search on my posts and u will no why im seriously pissed off at the mo.

Yes it started smokin when i de-catted

loads of the stuff on tick over :hurl:

now none and its been smokeless for a couple of weeks now

When mine started smoking(not long after i brought it) I changed the PCV Valves thinking that would cure it, Although it was still smoking I just assumed it was exess oil still burning off and was told to run it for a good few hundred miles untill it cleared, Which it did after about 500 miles and it was fine for a month of so.

Then it came back again and now it comes and goes, It`ll be fine for weeks and then all of a sudden it starts doin it again.

It sounds like yours is doin exactly what mine is, Well im getting my engine out next week hopfully to change the head gaskets and i will check the turbos while im there and ill let you know if it is the seals!!

Cheers mate

It more than likley is one of the turbo seals zed have a mind of there own like computers

Chris

@ chrisbond65 & sharky.....

When your engine was smoking was it using any oil at all?

To be honest mate the dip stick reading changes every side of the dip stick and im not sure which side is the right reading there must be oil in the dip stick tube and when you dip it you get oil all round the dip stick end

if it used any it was not much

sorry i cannot answer you question

it only takes a drop to smoke like mad on a hot exhaust

Chris

Mine doesent seem (or didnt seem) to loose any oil but like chris says it dont take a great deal to make it smoke like a *******, But no I kept a close eye on the oil level and it hardly ever needed a top-up and if it did it only needed a small amount (usually after a long journy)

And what the hell has july 1st got to do with things stell??

Is it national oil burning day or somethin??

OK thanks lads. Mine is smoking on closed throttle at the mo, and using oil. But it does not smoke just after starting up (classic valve stem seal) so I dunno......

Just got some PCV valves from MJP and I'm gonna fit them tomorrow and see what that brings me.

All the best!

Could be passing oil through the rings hopefully not is it high mileage?

Try the PCV valves it is worth buying the pipe for the drivers side which connects onto the PCV valve its not much i think MJP sells the pipe on the passenger side it is a normal piece of pipe you can get from any car shop.

The problem is the old pipes get old and reach high temps and become brittle you will be lucky if they don't split when prising them off the valve
