2 weeks ago I sold something on Ebay for £15 inc P&P. Unfortunately the winning bidder was from Italy - I say unfortunately, not because I don't like Italians, but because I would not normally send anything overseas.

Well the inevitable happened. I duly posted the item by Royal Mail international post (although not signed for - too much hassle from works franking machine :wack: ) and the buyer claims never to have recieved it. He is now emailing me via Paypal asking for his money back.

I know I should have known better - the last time I sold something to an Italian it caused me grief so I should have sent it by some form of registered post but for £15 I did not think it was worth it.

I have asked him to be patient knowing how slow the post can be but ultimately I do not believe him. I also posted something work related to Italy on the same day and that arrived Friday 31/8.

Should I offer a refund or pass it over to Paypal for them to conclude? (or simply tell him to feck off!!?)

Cheers

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

count yourself lucky it was only 15 quid... if it wasnt a recorded delivery there isnt really anyway you can prove he received it, ya never know he might even be telling the truth!

accept the loss and lesson learnt imo... for future auctions, state that the postage applies to the uk only and to contact you for the overseas payments... that way you can bump up the p&p to suit in order to ensure recorded delivery :)

all imo but i think its a lesson learnt for all that read this. also, if you kick up a fuss your likely to get a red spot on your ebay

then again, if your not bothered about getting negative feedback on ebay then stuff it, let the robbing bastad try it on! if hes that pissed off and continues to chase up that matter he will get his money back as he is insured through paypal... you should have a slip from the post office the state that you posted it so they cant prove you didnt post it?

chances are hes also worried about gettin negative feedback and may not bother for the sake of 15quid ;)

i personally never send anything out of the uk unless i know them, or know someone else thats dealt with them before as it can cause major problems. as joelyp says, do you have a postage reciept ? if so, let the buyer take it up with paypal. you will be asked for a faxed copy of the reciept anyway. make them sweat for it.

Paypal wont or shouldnt get involved until after 30 days as far as I know? if he aint had it by then it dosent have to be recorded to be able to claim against a loss in the post. I know this because I get on with the people that run our local post office and she tells me these things when I send out anything I sell on Ebay. He may well give you Neg FB but fook him just put a sub note on it explaining your end.

Cheers for the input fellas.

You're quite right - lesson learned and all that. Thing is I don't usually ship anything outside the UK for that very reason but I thought "It's only £15 so what the hell"

I'm not bothered about the -ve feedback TBH. I wouldn't pay attention to just the one and lets be honest, nearly everyone complains nowadays so I guess one blot is inevitable.
