I was at my mates new flat last night in nottingham and we wanted something to eat. We had no menus form takeaways so phoned 118 24 7 to get a number for a chinese, anyway conversation below:

Me: hi. can i have the number for a chinese takeaway in nottingham city centre.

Thicko: Ok, hangon...... Ok, any particular name?

Me: Just give me anything on the screen.

Thicko: erm.... i cant find that one, what road is it on?

Me:  prat.

Maybe i said 'Just give me anything on the screen' too fast and it sounded like a chinese, or maybe i just got the the idiot?

Isn't that the norm these days when you are trying to order/buy something!

First time I ever phoned directory enquiries (the original one) the woman just answered the phone and said "Name?"...

... so instinctively - as if pre-programmed - I immediately gave her my name. At which point I got silence on the other end of the phone, shortly followed by a slap round the back of the head from my mate, because he had overheard what I had just done. :nono:
