I'm having problems with getting keys cut for my car.

the car came with one key which was a copy not a proper 300zx key

i wanted to get a spare so i got it copied by the key cutter onto a generic nissan blank. it looks identical to my key that came with the car but doesnt work. having been back to the shop twice they have adjusted the key but it still doesnt work in the doors and works in the ignition but is very stiff

next i bought a proper nissan 300zx blank key (black plastic) and have had this cut from my working key (at a different key shop) however this doesnt work in any of the locks either. the lock shop think the 300zx key is thicker than my working key???

i have one more proper blank. is there a way of getting it cut to fit my locks rather than from my existing key?

any other helpful hints / ideas?

Have you looked at the working key next to the non-working ones to see if there are any differences?

I seem to remember I had to file the shoulder down on one of mine. (Was a long time ago and I'm getting old now LOL).

Graham.

also would be best to go to a decent key cutting shop instead of just a cobblers, we have a shop round ouirway that specialises in vault keys and security keys and are very good, they are also a proper locksmiths shop

Nissan dealer will supply and cut the keys on site at least mine does. try them. worked for me.

Nissan dealers will cut a key for you, unless you go to the one local to me. They wanted to send my one and only key away for it to be copied (because it was an import, they couldn't cut it in-house!).......... I ended up going to the local shoe repair shop and they done it.

Try somewhere different to get it cut. As stella suggests, try a proper locksmiths.
