Pissed off and depressed

Only been without the Z for 2 days and I'm almost suicidal. How can I be missing it so much when I know that to get it back is going to cost me thousands and that that won't be the last large bill to keep it on the road in the future.

bahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Sorry to hear the bad news man. I know exaclt how you feel. I have owned my zed for all of 9 weeks and its spent the last 7 weeks off the road..i didnt even get past the novelty stage!! its been doing my head in big time... hope you get it sorted out quickly. instead of ordering parts from uk nissan, order from courtesy nissan.com, they guarantee 5 day delivery.. i have been waiting for 5 weeks for parts and it driving me mad frown.gif(.

good luck bud

MAC, I was really looking forward to Sunday at Thoresby had polished the car Friday nightand it looked great. It drove great on Saturday morning to Zedworld and we went to the rolling road. I am trying to be positive and concentrating on when I get it back but I have to say when I add up the thousands I have spent on it this year alone I am really concerned that this may just have to be the end of the road of my 300 ownership, the spending just can't go on.

Since Jan 2002, JWT turbos, 555 injectors, JWT ecu, auto gearbox recon, new set of tyres, new water pump, new radiator, new air con pump, decatt pipes, propshaft centre bearing, new viscous fan and cover, EVC, set of Samco pipes, braided brake hoses, new ICE install.

There is also some concern that metal has past out of the head through to the turbos.

GOD NOW I FEEL WORSE.

There is no doubt in my mind John that you are by far the gustiest bloke I know, despite the fact that we all witnessed a heart stopping moment on the rollers and the later evidence, you remained calm and collected not even breaking in to a sweat once the truth had dawned on us all.....BIG GULP!

Gutted for you as was all who were there, but respect also to the man with an iron stomach...I actually felt phyically sick ALL day, I did a timing belt change after you left normally an enjoyable job but somehow it seemed like there was a dark cloud over the whole day, sorry for ya

Jeff TT

i no how ya feel m8,ive had my engine rebuilt/replaced three times in 4 years !its cost me about 20k and been off the road for at least 18 months of those 4 years.

really feel for ya!!!

listen to turkey(ste)

try and get most of the parts ur self,if you are ordering from uk nissan you will have a wait at least 5 weeks ?

my car took 4 months to get rebuilt the 2nd time it went on me!!

good luck , i hope its sorted soon for you..jay

I know i mailed you earlier John, but in just the short time that we met last sat i have deep admiration for you, especially the way you handled it all,i know sometimes it all seems a bridge to far when these things happen,no one can truly feel the way you do at this moment in time, you obviously have a great passion for all things z and motor sport, it would be a sad loss for all concerned for you to call it a day with zeds,i am really gutted for you and i hope you have upon reflection the strengh and courage to carry on with your love, allbeit a very exspensive one,all the best in what ever decision you make.GOOD LUCK.TonyC

Yeah bad one JN frown.gif

Not much you can say really, just hope it comes back rebuilt and better than before...

Peace.

Glen

Jeff - thank you for your help on Saturday, very much appreciated.

It was just one of those things that happens when you own a performance car that you upgrade and don't get setup correctly. Unfortunately I have no real performance companies with 300 experience near me in the Midlands so have to be a cautious as to how far I go with the rebuild. I would like to make it faster and more powerful but I don't think it is a good idea. All advice I seem to get conflicts so I just wish I had an SE Nissan or an Abbey Motorsport close to me but I don't, so it has gone back into my local Nissan dealer in Burton who are very good about working on it and don't screw me over with the bills but are not 300 experts, if there are many garages who are. My hope is that the damage is limited to the top of the engine, not pistons and not the new turbos. If so it will be ok, but if the engine has more damage than that then I will probably throw in a secondhand engine and get rid of it as I won't be able to trust it to do what I want from a performance supercar. I don't want to have to treat it tenderly I want to wring its neck and throw it around like I have up until now. That is where the fun of owning a super car comes from.

JeffTT, oh I found that getting massively drunk on Saturday and Sunday helped a lot, still missing it though! Driving a Celica around is not as much fun in the sun!

John

Never had the pleasure of meeting you, but from the response from others - you sound like a great guy. Sorry to here about the car especialy when 'everything else comes second!'.

Hope you get things sorted - it must be a difficult decision where you go next.

Respect and goodluck

Hi John

I'm sorry too hear about your news. I know of a very good mechanic in Shropshire who has experience in rebuilding Z engines. What he doesn't know about road cars and racing cars just isn't worth knowing.

Mail me on gavin.loughton@landg.com if you want.

Gavin (Silver Supra at Pod)

John I am really gutted for you mate, I love your car and I have had mine off road for alot longer than it's been on and it ain't nice!

I hope you stay with it mate and chin-up old chap and all that!

M8,dont no exactly where you live but there is a top garage up here(middlesbrough)

this garage rebuilds engines for all sports cars(lotus/aston martin expert) and allthough not an expert on zeds he does look after 7 or 8.

he has done 1 rebuild for me which was top notch and unfortunately i got caught in a flood and he built me another engine

hes not expensive either £40 an hour

if you want to no more then have a word with wild turkey(ste) he is getting his back tommorow after a head gasket / rebuild

if ya want to no more then ya welcome to call me..jay

I found a place close by to rebuild it, but thanks to everyone for their support. Have posted pics of the damage on the technical forum along with bits to be replaced. Thanks to all and hopefully I will be back on the road for either Supercar Sunday @ Gaydon or JAE @ Billing.

Im going to look at the techie section in a minute to see what actually happened, but were there no signs that it was on the edge when on the rolling road?

Theres a guy on our list called Chris Wilson, he does prep work on full on race cars as well as working on road cars. If you want a great mechanic who knows what he's doing with engines then he's the guy. He's up near Chester but he's well worth the trip if you want the car rebuilt and setup to the best settings for a reasonable price.

JB www.mkivsupra.net (current Billing count = 42)

Got rebuild prices together. Parts = £1400 + VAT, Labour/Machining = £1000. Secondhand engines offered to me = £750 (ex turbos) £1200 (complete). Think dropping in an engine wil be a lot cheaper in the long run.

Hi JN, not an engineer but just a thought.

If you have got a rebuilt engine, you can be sure (if you trust the mechanic) that it is as good as you can get. You will know exactly what has been done to it.

OTOH if you get a s/h engine, you've got no guarantee that something isn't lurking just below the surface. Also, you'll be back at the bottom of the upgrade ladder again.

Still, easy for me to say - it isn't my money.

Just my €0.032 - good luck whatever you decide

Gio

yeah but then you have the uncertanty of the condition of that engine.

I woudl bite the bullet and just get the one compleetly redone, at least then you know its all good.

I mailed you about the intercoolers. cheers
