Anyone ever owned a late 80's Bentley? Any comments on what they are like?

 

Going through one of my flights of fancy and want to run about in one for a few months. :cool:

Bentley Mulsanne Turbo..... very nice car

I've driven a 80's Silver Phantom and would have thought they'd be similar. They don't hang about, but they don't like corners either + I wasn't overly impressed by the stopping power.

 

Bit like driving a high powered boat. You have to plan and start manovering well in advance to get it vaguely where you'd like it.

i used to work for bentley and still have specialist tools for them and loads of recall sheets too and to be honest dont bother they are poo if its not rusty it will probably be brittle and as they say at crew its a frature not a fault the bmw green label bentleys are crap and th red label isnt much better either always look out for poor brakes as this is a common problem on them too as they are full power brakes and the pumps leak for fun into the v of the block so you lose vrake pressure also the rear spring cups rot out and need rewelding back on the handbrake never holds properly they piss oil and hydrolic brake fluid out of the pipes located over the n/s/f chassis leg rocker gaskets are horendous to change if you need to take the inlet pipes off this can end up being a full day to get them back on but depends on engine errr also look out for leaking head gasket as this is common too and the head bolts/nuts snap very easy also steering racks can be common to some 80s models moreso the b8 hth
