Can anybody tell me if and how to remove the EGR with the engine in? I am away to remove the plenum soon so if it can be done with it off can someone tell me how or even better a link for a "how to".

Cheers in advance. Steve

you have to plug the fitting on the passangers side manifold and fit blank flanges under the plenums in place of the EGR pipes.

theres very little space to get to it and reach down the back. i did it with the engine out no bother.

i cut the metal pipe from the manifold and removed the fitting, filled it with weld to turn it into a plug, and screwed it back in. then i made up blank flanges to fill the holes on the plenum...its pretty easy.

OK, so then I just plug the vacume tube on the balance bar and can I disconnect the control switch (the thing that sits next to the AIV switch) or do need to leave that hooked up?

no. you can just plug the vaccuum signal from the ballance bar to the SOV and remove the rest of tubing and the EGR valve its self.

is there actually any reason for doing this mod?

off subject,Plugging the vaccuum feed in effect removes the EGR, its a darn arse of a job to remove every part of the EGR in situ, its just not worth it, once engine is out as fraser says its easy.

overcome a problem thats not a problem? removal of a unit that pumps recycled fumes/gases back through the cycle, increasing engine temps in turn increase the risk of pre ignition. The whole systym is nissans way of saying look were making the effort and being more green! crock of over engineered shite IMO

i agree greg, who cares if theres too much NOx in the gas for f sake? its a bloody 3000cc TT!

what i meant was, if theres a problem with the EGR being stuck/blocked etc plugging the vacuum port may not work, because if the valve is physically stuck open, then changing the vac signal will not change the fact that its stuck. therfore blanking the plenum intakes and manifold is the only way.

Just want to remove, have done a wire tuck and just think the EGR looks poop. Trying to make the engine look good, even got carbon-fibre cam covers from smithy at a big price to make it look better. So can I remove the switch/solinode???

in that case then yes, just remove the vac signal and plug the balance bar.

by the looks of the diagram, removing the vac will allow the spring tension to default the valve to closed (which is what you want):

i actually used the now redundant EGR valve to make the anti-lag for the GTti
