rangerovers are just generally a bit of a technical nightmare. Not as bad as a zed, but it will be full of electrical niggles and things which work some of the time and not the rest....

We had a 96 v8 discovery, engine and gearbox were great it was just everything else that worked when you put your finger in your ear and the wind was blowing from the east!

have a read on parkers, that will give you a good idea of what to look for :)

Speak to Paul@SWZ he has 2 of them, and a couple of the older series plus half a dozen Discoverys !

Lovely to drive but yes Electrical nightmare

Cheers, just looking on autotrader now. Some very nice 98-99 deisel models full spec leather and toys. All around the 5k mark, they seem superb value. In all fairness we moan about z prices but it seems to me rangerover owners must be in a major depression. The grandaddy of 4x4's and all that. Is it because of the fuel prices or environmental issues?

p38's dont touch em...thats coming from my friend who is service manager of a RR dealership....the low prices reflect the high maint costs...suspension...air con..engines...they all go pop on the p38 range with alarming regularity

Yep.

I was left stranded on the M5 for 4 hours with airbag suspension problems in a P38......however it was becuase exhaust had fallen off and the hot gasses had then burnt hole in the airbag...so not really the suspensions fault LOL

Despit faults I'd still have one, with the Bmw 2.5 diesel engine.....chipped :)
