Title says it all really.

I'd like to replace my amber side repeaters with clear ones.

Is this legal or not?

Thanks.

yeah it's legal. You just fit them with silvertec (i think is the right name) bulbs.

Danny from Dta sell's them in the traders sec

Most cars come clear indicators as standard now ;)

its only illegal if they dont flash amber.

Depends on the age of the car. As some old cars came with white front indicators and flash with white illumination. Not sure if it's still legal to have forward facing white illuminated indicators, but got a feeling it is.

Maybe i didn't say this quite right.

I know the indicators have to be amber, but i was just wondering about the side repeaters - the little lights on the door.

Are these also counted as indicators, and therefore have to be yelow?

as long as they flash orange light it doesnt matter what colour the lenses are ;)

On the door ? :(

the ones on the wings called the repeaters have to flash amber !

Also, i was hoping to have non-amber bulbs in them.

you need the silver tec ones that still emit orange light then!

You dont need amber Leds these are the bulbs pauls on about , they looks silver, so do not appear orange under you clear/white side repeater but still meet the legal requirements as the flash orange like your current indicators

That's what I, and many others, have got fitted as you can (just) see in my sig below, they only look orange when they flash but, as the bulbs are silver coloured you don't see any orange until then.

I've heard you can get silver bulbs that flash orange? I might be wrong though....

Oops, misread his original posts in which case it's not legal ...

You may get away with it on the road but certainly not at MOT time.

why would you not want orange?

Ok well i'll prepare to get flamed here.

I certainly would like to not have amber if i can get away with it.

I'm doing blue LEDs in the sidelights, number plate lights, interior light, windscreen washer jets, and the "300ZX" light on the back. If anyone thinks this sounds a bit chavvy, feel free to take the piss - i am thick skinned!

So basically i'd love to put some similar ones in the repeaters (with a white/clear cover), depending on legality.

it will look like the stairways in our local cinema with all those blue leds!!  ;)

blue flashing lights as indicators is just asking for you to get pulled all the time, its really not worth it at all! you could always find some ideas on here lol
