Ok, went on the rolling road today and got 262fwhp BOOO!!!!!!, the equipment also showed im boosting at aconstant 0.5 bar.

The car was on a consult just a few weeks ago and no probs at all.

Fitted BOV's last week or so but there's been no noticable loss of power. I posted my 0-60 times a while back and everyone thought they were low which leads me to believe its been like it since i bought it.

Theres so much on this (o2 sensors, boost leek, cold start valve etc etc) so im really stuck. Any ideas???

Car runs purfectly and the fueling matches the low boost levels.

Thanks

dett sensor faulty resulting in car being in safety boost,it corrects each start-up but iff yours is really fvked then it will pick-up normal engine vibes and think it detting propmting the ecu to go into "safe mode"

do a resister by-pass as a quick fix and see iff it cures it,iff you send me your address ile send you the correct resister

znut, just done an ecu check and its clean. Exhaust is popping a little bit very rarely. What does the resistor do?? Go in place of the sensor?? Thank you for the offer, i'll pm you my address.

I have a small hiss on the drivers side in the engine bay?? Could this be anything??. I may get some silicone hose and a boost guage tomorrow so i can monitor the boost properly and change any brittle hoses??

If its missfiring now and then, clean the ECU temp sender It can give the ECU the wrong reading so it alters the timing, fuel maps as if engine is cold and you will be in safety boost all the time. Its the first and easiest thing to check. Its common with cars this age for the connector to be fouled up.

O2 sensors and Det sensor were fine, according to my conzult reading a couple of weeks ago!

Hissing prob means a boost leak, sort that out asap!

Ok Cleaned the yellow connector and got a code 13, took it off again and made the terminals tighter and cleaned the black connector beside it and back to a 55. Not sure if theres anymore boost though. Have the stock guage and its reading around 9.5psi, just before the line inbetween the 7 & 14 psi mark. Feels a little quicker but could be pchycological???

Will need to get a decent guage.

The hiss is very small on tick over, cant really destiguish it under load but theres a boost/turbo sound under exceleration?? Is this a leek????

when on idle spray wd40 on the suspected hissing hose and iff rpm increases then bingo thats the boost leak

this is a disclaimer that iff crotchrocket sets fire to his car or hair with wd40 i said nowt regarding advice  ;)

You will definatly notice the difference between safety mode when you regain full power.

You need to take car for drive, then without switching ignition off, perform an ECU test.

Btw - 262 fwbhp is about standard for a Auto TT, and pretty good for 15+ yrs old. You would not get anywhere near that figure in safety mode....take another 60-80hp of it and maybe !

Sounds more like a small boost leak to me.

Sounds the same mystery as my project. code 55 but in safety according to the dyno people, mine is 270 bhp and 6 psi, but that silly standard gauge says about 9 !

Sometimes the feeds to the boost solenoids at the ecu konk out and check that you have electrikery going the boost solenoids, if you don't it will be in safety boost!

Ok,

So far i've checked the temp sensor connectors and cleaned them, checked over the boost pipes i can see ( no cracks etc)

I fitted a new boost guage yesterday and it confirms im boosting around 6psi and peaking at 7 under a heavy load.

I will try the resistor test for the det sensor. After that i'm stuck to be honest???

Worth a z garage visit??

Your det sensor is fine from the conzult reading I did a few weeks ago, they don't pack up overnight and take a while to deteriorate, it would have shown on the conzult if there was a problem!

Try swapping ecu's with another friendly zed owner, or check there is a live feed to your boost solenoids, or get a boost leak check, either one of these is odds on to be your problem!

Ok cool. Thanks for the info. Topless would you be about this week for me to pop over?? Wouldn't mind listening to your TT engine on tickover or let you listen to mine. Make sure its all well, or even check the volts to the solenoids as i dont have a meter??

Didn't hear back from you re-exhaust, guess you sorted it.

you can borrow my ECU for a test mate. I got a newly refurbed one recently so pretty sure it is ok. i got a slow puncture on the way back from rolling road so it is sitting there at the moment so pop over. Got a multimeter too if that is any help to you.

alternatively, if both you boys are about this week we could meet up in putney again as i could do with having another conzult done now the new O2's are in....and it is my round too! give me a couple of days to sort my puncture though.

.and it is my round too!

EXCELLENT, seriously though it is prob easier to swap ecus, than faff about getting access to the boost solenoids plugs!

If it ain't that it is going to be odds on a boost leak!

Ok Cool, Thursday good for everyone??

Tom, does it matter that its a manual ecu and mines auto??

Topless pm

Thurs fri no good for me, why don't you guys try changing the ecu first if it doesn't work then bring it over to me :)

yeah actually your right. you can put an auto ecu into a manual but not visa-versa. Is that right?

anyway, we could put your ECU into my car to see if it made any difference. I dont know if you could tell any difference (ie safety boost) espeacilly if i have got a boost controller??

thursday might be ok for me but got a football tournament after work which i dont know how long will go on for. wednesday i am busy. tuesday i will be free after about 7.30

Thurs/fri no good for me, why don't you guys try changing the ecu first if it doesn't work then bring it over to me :)

Have u got a boost controller rocket?
