Is it you selling them then?

but i doubt it will make a huge difference TBH :)

lol...no :)

Put a FMIC on my S13 years ago made a great difference :)

That's no probs Martin, your money and your engine bud and i really do wish you good luck with it.

I would very strongly suggest intake charge temps testing before and after along with coolant temps too. These are what keep the engine going and if they get too high, goodnite viena, as they say.... :)

Those kits are actaully produced for less than 200 quid  Autobahnn approached me a long time ago about selling them.

Oh and the S13's plumbing/air design is a 1000 miles different to that of a zed :)

Good luck!

Cheers

Appreciate your opinion vastly, your experience of Z TT fars out weighs mine. :)

Are you of the opinion that aftermarket side mounted intercoolers are superior to FMIC for the Z ? :)

im quite worried now :( does this help in anyway the spec i have

Tabs on bottom and top for easy installation

Improved 15 big bar design with offset fins to increase efficiency

Core size 600mmx300mmx77mm ( 23.7 inch x 11.77 inch x 3.1 inch)

End to end 780mm

Inlet 75mm (3 inch) O/D

Outlet 75mm (3 inch) O/D

Supports more than 650HP

Latest unique bar & blate core design to improve air velocity by 15% over the old design

Fully polished alloy intercooler

Ultra low pressure drop 0.5-1psi at 23psi (Normal Bar and Plate 2.8- 4 psi at 23 psi)

35 % weight reduction

The kit will not only dress up your engine bay but will also allow for the much better flow of air in and out of your intercooler maximizing cooling on your 300ZX

Does anyone know where it core will be located?

In front of behind the rad (like some 200sx kits)

Oh, b.t.w i`m new... hi :D

Cheers,

Hank

in front and hi :)

I`ve heard that this will cause serious cooling probs.

Any thruth to this.. or only on high HP?

hi there and yes the zed suffers from heat probs, most people add a bigger radiator and i wood rather put in bigger side mounted intercoolers, thats what im going to do at some point.putting in a fmic restricts air flow to the rad,if this makes any sense  .

In my own personal opinion yes decent side mounts are superior to front mounts, i know many others feel the same.

In the absense of a definitive test with the same car on the same day testing both front and side mount, no one will ever know a 100% for sure.

Looking at the Zeds intake system which isn't the shortest around nor the straighest either you don't want to make any more restrictions.

In the pic of the kit in this thread it shows 2 bends each approx 160-180 degrees, each one of these bends adds approx 7ft to the length of the intake tract, fitting side mounts adds no extra length at all.

I've seen many tests on different side mounts, ARC ( the most expensive) come out tops due to their efficient cores and the altering angles of the inlets and outlets. Greddy rate highly and the Z1 Motorsport ones flow tested to be about the same, that said there are a lot options around these days.

I actualy manufactured around 150 sets of pipework for the S13 FMIC using the saab coolers, longest pipe was about 18ins to turbo and the shortest about 10in with a 45 deg bend to the TB, hence why they perfromed quite well over stock.

Also done in the past 8 years cooler pipe kits for Evo's, Scoobies, Pulsars and Skylines which kinda gives me some experince in the workings of Intercoolers :)

Hope that helps

cheers

ive also got a koyo rad on the way will this help or not???

plus wots the difference between this pipework seems to have as much bends as the autobahn. im not trying to prove you lot wrong as i know u know alot more than me just after ur advise thanx

yhst-15342291949654_1960_45605131.jpg

noticed theres two extra little bends which looks like they replace the rubber hoses near the original ic which looks like a bonus or maybe not

dnt know how true this is but im gonna email him

All received, I fitted the kit on Saturday, no leaks all done and dusted in 8hrs, runs my 550 bhp Z super, great, fantastic, i can say with out a doubt top value and service, if any of your customers need a referance on this system please fill free to give them my email geniun equires only please and i will be happy to recomend your kit.

Thanks guys

Rating: [5 of 5 Stars!] lol

Yes having a KOYO will help some, but bear in mind the whole process of cold air being forced into the Rad is gone when a FMIC is fitted because it is passing through the I/C 1st, what comes out the back, is not as cold as what went in the front. Cooling is something Zeds are kinda tempermental about at the best of times :)

You know I love Ebay comments like that you copied, "550bhp zed" erm how many peeps have said that about their car and been massively wrong, i think we all have wishful thinking at some point lol

but on a serious side, it's how the item performs which is the most important aspect that everyone wants to know and without going on a rolling road and taking intake charge temp readings, you ain't gonna know!

cheers

thanx for ur advice guys, looks like im stuck with this system now ill let you know how it gets on im going to get it checked out as much as i can when it arrives :(

p.s found that commet about his 550 zed on google not ebay but all the same could be autobahn themselves!

Isnt there a way to use the space left by the orginal SMIC to duct extra air to the Rad?

Getting a Koyo is a must for me any with the mods i`m planning... but the price of this kit is so good that I can order a koyo rad+ this kit and still be cheaper then most SMIC upgrades (greddy, HKS etc.)

exactly wot i was going to do i have a ab-flug after market bumper where there is plenty of ways i can get extra air flow to the koyo rad! just hope the intercooler will be as gd as standerd smic or better :)

the set up u will be fitting is what a lot of people use wen running excess power,im still going with side intercoolers as they bolt straight in,

oh and also relocate yr oil cooler and gearbox oil cooler if u have both where the side mounted intercoolers used to be,but its still the prob of getting cool air to the rad,i also took the plastic under tray off to aid cooling to the engine bay, every little edge on these cars is a bonus, hope this helps :) .

thanx does a manual import have a oil cooler and a gearbox oil cooler ive seen 1 little 1 that sits in front of the rad thinking this is the gearbox rad??

also i found this which is interesting http://www.autobahn88.com click on the 300zx intercooler pic they show u how they make the intercooler and specs :)
