My Uk Spec 91 TT was leaking coolant badly for several days. I kept topping up but she so far never overheated. Until!

Last saturday took on a 911 turbo to 130mph and I must admit it was close but the 911 was pulling away slightly.

After this she did seem to overheat slightly.

Wednesday, came out and there was a fair pool of coolant under the car. Took to the mechanic today he had her out and running on the ramp for 20 mins , no sign of any leak. His only suggestion was that the seal on the water pump may be leaking when warmed up. My SWB's water pump had to be replaced at 35K. My UK Specs now got 92K

Advice anyone???

130mph with a coolant leak??? You've got more money than I have!!! wink.gif

Could be water pump - has the cambelt been changed??? If the belt was changed then the water pump should really have been done at the same time...

Have you had the coolant system pressure tested?

Where abouts in the engine bay did the water seem to be coming from???

Sounds like the problems I had and it turned out to be the radiator cap. Worth a try for about £7 or something.

The pressure valve in it was sticking and causing the water to boil over at too low a temp.

Take it off and inspect the rubber seal underneath.

I couldn't find a leak as every time I parked up the heat from the engine with no fan/air cooling it caused it to boil over after I had left the car. Sometimes came out in the morning to a pool on the drive like you.

If you think you need a radiator cap, I've got one you can have for a fiver including postage.

Thanks

Hello Mate,

Had an overheating prob meself a while ago!

Cheapest easiest options are!

1 Change Rad Cap

2 Flush System

3 Clean contacts on chip temp sender yellow leccy plug behind fan!!

Andy Z £5 is good for a new one!

Turned out my leak was coming from two short lengths of hose behind metal housing leading into block!

I had a similar problem..turned out that the coolant bottle on the inner wing is a two part piece...the coolant when hot was leaking from where the two pieces meet! I sealed the bottle and seemed ok. Then I sprang a leak where two small pipes feed into the block..they are about 3" long. Replaced them and touch wood all is fine.
