I've bought my girlfriend a Toshiba Satellite Pro laptop running Vista. Everything works fine - except the wireless connection. Basically, I'm getting the "windows cannot connect to the wireless network as there was no response from the router" error message.

I've stripped the security from the router (which is a Netgear DG) and connected to it with my Macbook so it is working. A quick google has brought up a few possibilities - basiocally Vista doesn't 'hesitate' as much as XP when sending wireless signal - which causes the problem; a firmware update normally sorts it.

Now here's the big problem - I've just switched to SKY broadband and the admin console is specific to SKY so I can't update the firmware... SKY tech support are blaming the laptop so no joy there!!

I've also put a PMCIA wireless card in, and that has the same problem - and is Vista compatible... so i'm fairly certain i'm screwed as I think the username & password are coded into the sky box so I can't use another one!

Anyone have any suggestions?? Please?!

No worries - didn't take it as a sarky comment! It does look like they've rushed Vista out to look as good as OS X, regardless of any bugs!

Exact same problem as my other half had with her new laptop. Got worse after she installed Firefox on it too. It will connect every now and then, if it feels like it.

Vista is rubbish stick xp on it mate. I had the same problems with vista and have gone back to xp. Mind you i have found a good use for the vista disk. Its now a coffee mat. :D
