This may be a shot in the dark but does anyone know of a way to help ease the pain of bangs and scrapes on my front (and back?) bumpers?? Not that I'm a bad or crazy driver but the roads around Reading are littered with these huge bumps.....apparently to make you go slower! Add to that a national inability to lay down a road 2007 years worth of experience and technological advancements after the birth of Christ without having to dig it up again a week later because some chumo lacked the foresight to stick all the extra pipeage (sewage/electrical) under it first!! This just adds to sunken roads with hidden potholes which tend to WRECK my undercarriage!

Enough with the rant....is there some kind of reinforced 'guard plate' i canadd to the bottom? Maybe carbon fibre-esque? All ideas welcome! Obviously Iknow that a hard bang is a hard bang regardless but anything to minimise the scrape-age?

Its called a Front Splitter.

You could make one yourself, not seen any Brit companies with one. were always year behind ideas like this.

Front Splitter eh? Sounds interesting.....cheers for the top tip! But how woul I go about making one myself??

I've had a ganders on the WWW and there doesn't seem to be anything there...

Right...had another search and from what I have come across, the splitter is mainly used for aesthetic/performance (wind) factors. So....the question is....can it really help me in terms of damage to the front bumper...?

I might add here that my zed has a full kit on it and is rather lowered...as you will see from my avatar/rides.....

Ideas? I'm tempted to just use a whole roll of electrical tape on the underside and just replace it from time to time!!!1

make a templete then 2-3 mil s/steel cut 2 size rivet on 2 make bumper stiffer tak it of an spray in foam filler when dry trim

ok basically what was said was to use strengthening supportive metal pieces on your bumper in vulnerable areas, what i did with my oem when i modded it was to use expanding foam filler ( get it from b+q)and spray into bumper cavities and trim when dry to add support

Personally, I would photograph the offending pothole/speedbump & send this photo along with an invoice for any related vehicle repairs to the local council.

They are responsible for the upkeep/condition of the local roads & therefore should be liable for any damaged caused.

Be carefull strengthening the bumper - if you make it too strong you will end up creasing your front wing if you hit something hard...

Excellent link Vijay...certainly some food for thought!

As for the foam filler....not sure it will work with mine as the cracks at th moment are very thin (although getting bigger very quickly!). I shall take some polaroids and post them up here when I get home so you can have a look....

  • Author

Follow up to earlier...as you can see from the pics, the crack are quite small at the moment but getting longer and longer, spreading across the width of the lwoer bumper....

...so can I use foam filler? and won't this appear white and uneven??

thats caused by the flex when it hits, use foam filler on the inside and trim, it will give structural strength and remove excessive flex

I'm a complete noob to this so don't hate me...but all I have to do is jack the car up...and fill from behind? Or is there more to it than that?? Layman instructions required I'm afraid...I'm a noddy! :slap:

looks low enough to catch on the cats eyes lol, gonna need to raise the ride height if you want it to stay in 1 piece imo.

ok

Clean the surface soapy water will do. white spirit better

Squirt expanding foam onto the back of the bumper around the edges.

whipe off excess and tidy.

for added strength you can add chicken wire.

excellente!! Shall have a crack at that his weekend then I hope...may have to get my hands on a pair of those lovely wooden ramps tho!

As for the ride height...aye....has adjustable suspension/ride height but not had a play with them yet....the drive feels perfect as it is....

I found this while surfing las night....the car seems to have the bumper kt, but then a black plate/tray underneath. Is this purely for styling or does it have other functions?

Does anyone know if this would help my issue of bumper scrapage and if so where I can get hold of one cheapish??
