I am about to change my N/A Jap 180 kph clock cluster for a TT UK 160mph clock cluster.

I have a couple of questions:-

1) I don't mind the turbo psi dial being there below the speedo, I just wont be using it (obviously), but are there any other problems with exchanging N/A Jap clocks for TT UK clocks?

2) I am expecting the speedo to work to 180mph although the actual dial is only 160mph. Should I be able to correct this by means of the pot?

Cheers - Dave

Hi Dave,

I replaced my Jap n/a set for a Jap TT set and all works perfectly but I can't comment on the UK TT swap over? I reckon it would work though and would be interested to hear how things go.

Good luck,

Nigel

Sumfink not right there.

PLUS they won't fit anyway because you have a series 4 Zed.

I had a series 2.5 into which I fitted series 1 dials. just disassembled the original clocks and rebuilt using the UK parts I wanted. No problem.

Series 1 & 2 are interchangable (and probably series 3 too).

Series 4 is very different. I found that out the hard way.

160mph  - Uk Clocks are 180mph

Yep I know, but I think the ones I have bought were originally from the US and are 160mph. Do you think the potentiometer will allow me to adjust the reading so it is correct?

Oh dear........how different are they?

Totally.

The plugs on the rear of the cluster are a different size so you can't just plug it in.

Plus, the screw mounts for the dials are in different places too, so you can't simply swap them over either.

It's a bugger really.

True, the U.S had 160mph clocks.....although it would be extremely unusual to have a set of U.S clocks here in the UK. Any other evidence to suggest they are genuine U.S clocks ? The reason I ask is that its common for people to fit a 160mph face only from the likes of ebay onto there Jap clocks and then perform the resistor mod to calibrate.

Are the Boost and Oil pressure gauges in PSI ?

Yes, the Boost and Oil pressure gauges are both in psi.

I think they are new dials (white) that were retro fitted to UK clocks. The guy I bought them from (on here) said the speedo wasn't accurate which is why I am asking if the pot. is likely to correct this problem.

It looks as though I might have bigger problems anyhow, as Graham S has pointed out on previous posts......I guess I wont know for sure until I take my clocks out, which I don't want to do now in case things go wrong and stop me using the Zed for upcoming meets etc. (Life's a b****r isn't it, doesn't anything ever go simply on a Zed?)

Dave, have you got a pic of the rear of the new speedo?

You may be lucky with the direct swap as I have seen old ones with what looked like the same rear connectors (series3?).

Graham.

Have a look at these.....I took one of the front as well for good measure.

Ah, bugger. That's the one that won't fit. :(

Oh flip!!!!!!!!!!!........I guess that puts me back to square one!

Do you know what version my photo is?

Series 1 or 2. (Not sure what, if any, the differences are between them).

I know of one other type that has the guages the same as those, but the connectors the same as ours.

I assume that's the series 3 one.

Would it be possible to transfer all the UK clocks to my Jap cluster?

Not your series 4 one. The screw posts are in totally different places.

That's a real shame as I really liked the white dials.

Anyone want to make me an offer, or exchange for series 4 set?

I had problems switching my US cluster to a German one..i.e from a 160MPH cluster to a 280KMH one ...i found that not only were some of the warning lights were in different places and instead of the immobilzer security light flashing I had the "doors open" light flashing instead.I also found that the curcuit board on the back are different too ..Not sure if it´s the same with the UK cluster but I found the easiest and best way was to disassemble both clusters and put the individual instruments from the Euro spec into the US housing. Not sure if that applies to UK ones ..so not sure if this is of any help at all mate .

Thanks Maz, but I am being told that the instruments are not interchangeable between the two clusters I have.......so unfortunately I can't do what you suggest.

Dave will have them in the post tomorrow

Ste

Hi Ste - Received the plugs today.....your a great m8 for getting them to me so quickly, and without charge.

I am really grateful - cheers - Dave

Well, I've got the plugs (many thanks Wez) and also the diagrams I need for the two clusters (many thanks Graham S) BUT...................

It looks as though the changeover is beyond my ability. I could do the physical rewiring no probs but the diagrams indicate that the two clusters are too different to allow the electrical changeover.

e.g. S4 has an airbag connection, S1/2 does not

S4 has a security connecction, S1/2 does not

S1/2 has rear fog connection, S4 does not (this is not a problem)

The speedo connections are so different I cannot sort them out.

Etc...etc.....etc.

SO.......it looks as though I might have to throw the towel in on this project which is a crying shame as I would love to see the new white/silver cluster on my Zed.

UNLESS SOMEONE CAN TELL ME HOW TO DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
