bleed valve. not working properly

ok, you guys know your shit. i need some pointers.

i have just installed a bleed valve. [yes, thankyou, no lectures]

now, i only get 6 or 7 psi out of my GTO and i wanted to see if i could get a bit more.

i installed the valve in the correct place. and opened it a bit, then a bit more......then a bit more. and i could only register about 8 psi.

anyone any ideas why this is?

i think my aftermarket boost guage is pretty accurate. i think i installed the bleed valve correctly.

why only 8 psi. with the amount i have the valve open it should have been bloody 30 psi!

and the car didn;t feel that much faster than normal, so i am sure the guage is working correctly. and i was only getting 1 psi more.

why???

please help.

cheers.

Well I know jack about how GTO's work, so it's obvious questions only. Have you got the right size bleed valve - fractions of a millimeter can be critical (assuming it works the same way as a Zed).

dont you need to make the hole smaller, not larger, to increase boost ?

You need to bleed more air off the actuator (vent it to atmosphere) to prevent it opening at a factory set level.

More air bled off actuator=wastegate opens later=more power=short engine life biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

I only use the brakes so I can accelerate all over again.

What i cant understand is (and im really not having a dig at you) why not just get a proper boost controller. They are far more accurate and more adjustable and have safety features built into them ect? At the end of the day you could have a rather large engine bill just for the sake of not spending a bit more money on a controller.

Stupid question how were u testing it? Obviously u'll be wanting ur foot right down do a fair few revs. Ive known someone to sit on the drive revving it up..." it aint got no boost"

Rob

er. i believe i have the right one.

it is t'd in near the boost solenoid valve.

i assumed that the more boost you bleed off the higher boost you will run - since you are trying to fool the system into thinking you are actually running less boost.

and no, i wasn;t revving it on the drive. i was caning it around in 3rd.

i just hate the way that my boost guage just shoots straight up to 6 psi, and thats it, it just sits there , at 6 bloody psi.

even when i fiddled with this bleed valve it just went straight to 7/8 psi and just sat there.

it gets to 5 in an instant, and then a few seconds later it hits 7 or 8.

bloody arse.

maybe my guage is a bit dodgy.

its a graham goode , basic mechanical type thing.t'd off on the intake plenum just after the throttle valve thing , me thinks.

sod it, im off to bed,

cheers.

If its anything like the Z then bleed valves on their own don't work. You need to use boost jets too. Can't remember exactly how they were connected on mine but I think one "pair" of actuator hoses had the boost jets whilst the other "pair" had the bleed valves. Can't remember the exact plumbing though
