When starting the car first thing when the engine is cold getting white smoke, but as soon as I start driving the problem goes compleatley.

Give it a thrashing and still seems o.k

Turn off the engine when hot, restart and no smoke problem.

Any advice please.

Hi Vijay,

I dont think its condesation because I can smell oil, There are no bad sounds coming from the engine and still pulls like a train.

Could it be the pcv valves?

No its White/grey.

Is it very thick white smoke that hangs around a lot ?

unfortuntly it could be turbo seals leaking oil into the exhaust when its parked up.

Oil will produce white smoke if it burns in the exhaust, and blue smoke if its burning in the combustion process.

Sounds like possibly Tubby seals, have you decatted the car recently or increased the boost?

Hi Glenn,

I have not decatted the car, it was already done when I bought the car 1 year ago and I have not increased the boost.

I will have to get the seals checked out.

As said before condensation, the smell is just the engine running rich which it will do when its cold its like being on chock. If it was Turbo seals you would get the smoke when the engine is hot too, even more so as it is thinner

No, not nessarily..have seen it a few times where its only when car is parked up that the oil leaks into the exhaust, and then burns off once car started up.

Ofcourse it might not be the seals, hopefully not.

Carl,

Thanks mate for that, then do you think it could be the pcv valves?

No, i think its just condensation. If it was pcv valves it would be blue smoke from engine oil bypassing the pcv valve and going back into the intake then into combustion chamber.

Although it is a good idea to clean pcv valves out periodically or better still replaced, as they can get clogged with engine oil sludge and stuck closed which stops correct ventalation of the crank case and gasses can build up and blow rear crank case oil seal out plus make the engine run and idle like shit, but worse than that if they get stuck open and the engine backfires there is nothing to stop the flame going back into the crank case and BOOM! bye bye engine. So not a bad idea to change them if you dont know how long they have been in, a simple cheap device that can save you from an expensive head ache.
