Just out of curiosity, those with an SP30 with a ban what difference did it make to your insurance? One of my colleagues is saying it's going to be on a par with a DD10 (Drink Driving) ban, and I can't see it being that much.

so say 120 in a 70 :slap: :nono: :rolleyes:

ouch. its not jk is it ? :rofl: . i think he will get hammered for that by both the courts and the insurance. they will tollerate being over the limit by a certain amount, but that is rather accesive.

SP30 is a is a speeding in a 30 mph penalty

SP30 - Speeding / Exceeding the speed limit

What is the offence?

Driving on a road (non motorway) exceeding the speed limit

Maximum points and fine

* Fine not exceeding Level 3

* Endorsement with 3-6 penalty points

* Discretionary disqualification (depending on the speed)

How it tends to work

If you are doing more than 30mph over the limit you are likely to be disqualified from driving. This will depending on a variety of factors including

* Speed

* Road conditions

* Weather etc.

If you are offered a fixed penalty, and you are guilty then you may be best to accept this. Your licence will be endorsed with minimum number of penalty points and the fine is likely to be less than if you go to a court and are found guilty.

And does it affect the premium straight away or only at renewal?

You have up to one year to inform the insurance company. Best to do it straight away though just to be safe.

most leave it till renewal, but if an accident occurs then the insurance company are withing their rights not to pay out anything seeing as they have not been informed, then leaving a rather large bill for the person in question.

^^ What he said better then I did :D ^^

and get it in writing that you have informed them - when I told them, they said they would put a note on my file, but it wouldn't increase my premium until renewal... then when I had a claim, they said I hadn't informed them... tossers!

sp30 usually would add max of 10% to insurance.

One with a ban could take it to 15% or 20% sometimes

Myself if i'm giving someone a quote i wouldnt even bother loading for just one - banned or not. If you had more than one then you would prob be looking at the percentage loads at the top

I had an SP30 ban for 30 days years ago for doing about 70 on a dual carriageway which I didn't realise had a 40mph limit :rolleyes:

I forgot to tell the court I was working my notice before moving to a new job and was losing my company car anyway so I didn't even have a car for the month they banned me :rofl:

I told my insurer but I didn't even notice any change in my premium :)

Might be different if it's a year ban or for totting up over 12 points though.
